Romney now lying about GM to Toledoans

http://www.businessinsider.com/romney-gm-lies-ads-2012-10

Apparently undeterred by the backlash over his false claim that Chrysler is shipping U.S. jobs overseas, Mitt Romney broadened his attack to include General Motors Tuesday. And General Motors was not happy about it.

The dust-up stemmed from a new radio ad that the Romney campaign quietly launched in Ohio Tuesday, claiming that, under President Barack Obama, "GM cut 15,000 jobs."

This ad is airing in Toledo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xl77CapjzsA (WXKR)

Like the Chrysler television ad, the radio spot is extremely misleading. General Motors' U.S. employment did drop by 14,000 from 2008 to 2011, most of the losses came at the height of the recession in 2009. And those jobs were not moved to China.

Unsurprisingly, GM's reaction was swift and harsh:

"We've clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days,” GM spokesman Greg Martin told the Detroit Free Press. “No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country.”

I heard it this morning and my reaction was similar to the GM spokesman.

I'm completely amazed that so many voters don't even care about reality anymore, as long as they get a chance to vote for one of the talking heads of the hydra that our two party system has become.

GM has been moving production overseas for DECADES.

An accurate summary of the auto bailout is it took money away from successful businesses and handed it to businesses like GM, that failed because of their own poor decisions.

more accurately, large corporate interests lobbied congress hard (gave obscene amounts of money to buy off congressional members) to allow corporations to move manufacturing away from the USA to countries that did not have health, safety, environmental, human rights, and wage standards to maximize profits for the top share-holders and executives while screwing over the American middle class bringing on lower standard of living across the board, the loss of health care and retirement plans putting stress on state and local governments and contributing mightily to the bush recession/depression (along with deruglation of banking, investment, and insurance industries).

Obama took money that as was to be given to banks and used to restructure the auto companies. Funny people don't bitch about the banks at all...

That is not what was implied at all in the ad. I can easily say, Bush as elected and the Twin Towers in NYC were destroyed killing thousands or Bush as elected and Hurricane nearly destroyed New Orleans and hundreds died or Bush as elected and a tsunami swept over the SE Pacific killing hundreds of thousands.

All of which are accurate statements.

Obama also lies when he says he bailed out the auto industry. The auto industry is much more than G.M. and Chrysler. There are many more companies that make up or comprise the auto industry. When he says that he bailed out the auto industry he is lying. What did he do for Ford,Honda and Toyota? Are they not part of the auto industry.

Ford had plenty of cash on hand. If money went to Honda or Toyota, you'd be screaming about how American dollars bailed out the Japanese, regardless of the impact on their American production.

Ford, Honda, and Toyota often rely on the same suppliers as GM & Chrysler. When those suppliers die, do you think that would affect everyone else?

I guess I am usually so busy being present in the moment when I am with actual living people that it doesn't occur to me to check and respond to what some stranger on the internet says.
For me, this forum is more of a two minute diversion over coffee between news. For others, it is a way of life.

I usually check into news when I'm bored. The party was slow and I was bored at that point. I could have spent my time being a vapid dumbass on Twitter, or checking up on George Takei's Facebook page, or playing Angry Birds. I'm SOOOOOO sorry if the fact that I pay attention to anything outside my own life and the happenings of friends and acquaintances means I have no life. I'm SOOOOOOOOOO sorry if the fact that I give enough of a damn about the direction of this nation to keep saying things about it on a forum means I have no life. I know too many people who are pissed off about how things are going yet they can't get off their asses to vote, and a lot of what they think is going on is just what some other friend of theirs reposted on Facebook or Twitter, or happened to hear on TV in between watching stupid reality shows.

Maybe my next post should be from the bathroom, so I dismiss two piles of shit at once, rather than one right now.

I'd wager that this could be accomplished on each and every thread. If you can't twist what is actually written, you'll take it out of context and restate it for your purpose. That's a byproduct of needing to "win" every thread, rather than being willing to have a conversation.

Let me quote "bdub77" from Fark.com:

Let's look at major terror attacks under the past several administrations, shall we? Negating Iraq/Afghanistan which are war zones.

Reagan Years:

2000
Yemen: U.S. Navy destroyer USS Cole heavily damaged when a small boat loaded with explosives blew up alongside it. 17 sailors killed.

Death toll: Plenty (most so far...but wait!)

Bush Jr:
2001
9/11: 2992 people killed

2002

2003

India: Mumbai attacks. 300 people are wounded and nearly 190 people die, including at least 5 Americans.

Bush death toll: Congrats, you win the death toll prize! Maybe next time you won't sit on intel from the previous president.

Obama:
2009-2011: A bunch of failed terror plots.

2012
Benghazi, Libya: OMG 4 people die!

Obama death toll: basically 4 farking people.

Oh and he farking got Bin Laden. So STFU about Benghazi you asshats.

Sooooooooooo, how about all the Republican fuck-ups, eh Lie-tosser?

"Unlawful order" is a concept that was raised by a veteran, who ought to be familiar with the context and the use. Nobody said anything about "unlawful president." He was elected and must be voted out. I have never read anybody on this forum suggest that some kind or insurrection should be launched. No conservative would advocate violence in favor of due process. This is why conservatives never took over parks (and raped people) and lived like pigs in a useless, meaningless, attempt to force change outside of due process by using "occupation" to be annoying.
