Deadline Hollywood Daily: ‘Star Wars’ Returns — ‘Episode 7′ Slated For 2015 And More Movies Planned As Disney Buys Lucasfilm
Disney has just confirmed that it has agreed to acquire George Lucas‘ Lucasfilm Ltd, and that includes rights to the Star Wars franchise that will now continue on. The companies have targeted a 2015 release for Star Wars: Episode 7, with Episode 8 and Episode 9 to follow as the the long-term plan is to release a new feature every two or three years.
"For the past 35 years, one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next,” said Lucas. “It’s now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers. I’ve always believed that Star Wars could live beyond me, and I thought it was important to set up the transition during my lifetime. I’m confident that with Lucasfilm under the leadership of Kathleen Kennedy, and having a new home within the Disney organization, Star Wars will certainly live on and flourish for many generations to come."

What say you, TT'ers? Up for 7, 8, 9...a new "Star Wars" every 2 or 3 years? More Jar Jar?
I've actually grown to somewhat like the "new" trilogy now that it has been removed from the unbelievably high expectations that surrounded their release. People were expecting these movies to be perfection and when they weren't, the geeks came out in droves. Been meaning to watch that documentary "The People v. George Lucas" for some time now...should get around to that.
IMO, George Lucas had a decent story, but sunk himself by casting "actors" who couldn't act in the absolutely pivotal role of Anakin Skywalker.
Anyway..."Star Wars" lives on...for better or worse...
LUKE.........
I am your great-great grandfather!!!
To your point, OHT, it has always amazed me just how terrible the acting is from all of the unnamed characters in the series. The main cast is fine, but then you get those people who only have one line, and it's like they forgot to cast somebody for the role and pulled someone in off the street and said "alright, you only get one take!" And it's not like it's one or two of them, it's all of them.
But yeah, I'm pretty damn pumped for this. As someone who sacrificed his popularity through elementary school for my unabashed love of Star Wars, and a former employee of the Walt Disney Company, I am on cloud freakin nine after this news.
My initial reaction was one of disappointment, thinking that Disney would ruin the series. But the more I thought about it and read into it, this could be really good. George Lucas has been ruining my childhood memories one movie at a time - starting with the Phantom Menace and ending with the atrocity that was Indiana Jones 4.
Disney acquired Marvel and has vastly improved the quality of the movies, culminating in their very successful Avengers. They seem to be staying true to the original so I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope for the best with the next movie.
I agree that Star Wars would be better in the hands of Disney. Looked at objectively, the acting in IV, V and VI wasn't the best, but it suited the story. Lucas' tin ear for diaglogue was especially highlighted in the prequels and the focus on CGI razzle dazzle only made things worse.

C-3PO will be replaced with Wall-E-PO.
There will be a new Sith Lord with a red face... it will turn out to be Red Skull, and it will be revealed that Darth Maul was his father.

Dear not-read, could you keep the personal attacks on me limited to the politics threads? I'm sure the rest of ToledoTalk would appreciate it. Thanks!

Confession: I have never watched any of the Star Wars movies.
Obviously I am aware of the general storylines and major characters. But I've never watched one of the films from start to finish.

Same here. And I thought I was the only one who never saw any of the Star Wars movies.
I'm still a fan of the original Star Trek series.
One of my favorite movies is American Graffiti, which was directed by George Lucas.
Seems to me George Lucas had always planned 9 Star Wars movies. 3 that took place before Luke Skywalker, 3 that took place during Luke Skywalker and 3 that take place after Luke Skywalker. 7,8 & 9 will be the after Skywalker series.
Who knew that all those years reading Starlog magazine would come in handy?

My advice is don't watch them, and if you do, Rifftrax is your friend. Particularly for Eps I-III as well.
Lucas is donating ALL of the $4 billion from the sale to a foundation called Edutopia that "empowers innovative coursework in schools". He is also the chairman.

Wow. That is amazingly commendable. I always here little blurbs about Edutopia on NPR.
