A friend just posted this on Facebook. Even though I stopped going there after it changed hands a while back, I will truly miss it if it's gone forever. I liked being able to smoke on the patio, the sometimes live music, bumping into tons of people I know and, yeah, they made a mean chocolate Coke (after some coaching from me).
I spent hours and hours there writing papers, and at one point I made a HUGE life-altering decision. Had Maxwell's not existed, I suspect I never would be where I am now. Happy.
I drove by there on Bancroft just yesterday at 6pm. The city is tearing up the street right by the building. Maybe the cafe is shut down due to water or sewage issues from the construction.
That street has been closed for months. They finally got wise and switched the traffic light to flashing caution. It was ridiculous to sit there and wait for a red light with no cross traffic!
It's treacherous even for foot traffic in that area right now. There's no mention of them closing on their website, although they also don't have any events posted. Hopefully if they are closed, it's only temporary.
It was great as Charlie's Blind Pig
they were open yesterday.
"...it was great as the blind pig..."?!?!
unhealthy levels of sanitation and 14 year old girls were not issues you cared about? ;)
with the stein, the pub, and the OT i never saw a reason to go to the pig
i had great hopes for maxwells that never seemed to materialize. still, hoped they would thrive... maybe taking a break during construction
Maybe a sewer issue arose from a recent development from the construction.
backpedal
Hmm. Just called their phone# 419-534-3300, and their fax# 419-534-BREW, and got the "disconnected or no longer in service" telco messages. Maybe they are closed for good. I double-checked the phone#; it's in the phone book and on their website (www.maxwellsbrew.com).
I just saw a post from someone who says they are open again, and that they were just closed for a while due to the holiday and the construction issues. Yay!
They were open today @ 4 pm.
Hope not, one of my favorite places to get a cup o'liquid energy.

Who cares, it was 15 yrs ago and I was in college
I used to go there every Saturday before UT games to pick up Sandwiches for the referees.
I will miss it.
I have not driven by Maxwell's in ages, always had a good time when I was there.
