Christmas Lights 2012

Anybody seen any Christmas lights they think are outstanding?

Here's a couple of places I saw on my drive home today that are worth a drive:

1222 Clark St. Holland - WOW!

Conant Street in Maumee. Double WOW!

Agree, even in Oregon it's amazing. The lights at the Zoo is nice as well, went last night with my girl and her niece.

Haven't seen if the "Griswold" house is lit up yet though chuckles :)

So grateful for the late warm weather - think more people have lights up this year because of it.

And it's going to be 60 and cloudy but no rain on Monday (if the forecast is accurate) so I hope even more homeowners will be able to put their lights out.

I love them all - even the simplest of lights (candles in window with red-bowed wreaths) are beautiful.

I'm grateful to be able to enjoy them!

Conant Street is wild. The blue lights almost put me into some psychedelic seizure. :)

Our lights are in progress! We've switched to all LEDs this year for the outdoor lights. I don't care for them, personally, but it's the right thing to do.

:-/

Also, we'll have twice as many outdoor lights this year, at least. Yay! Tree is going up today, too!

I assume this house in Oregon will be lit up again. The lawn is also covered with lights. You can barely see the glow through the snow in this old photo.

I'm really old fashioned. When I was young my mother took us kids downtown on Friday after Thanksgiving to see the Christmas windows in the department stores. No one had anything of Christmas up before that.

So, I do not put up anything till Dec. 15. As we are both too old to climb a ladder the outside lights belong to step son and he does a great job. I then put up tree.

Our neighborhood is all lit up with decorations now. It is a beautiful sight.

Jr: That is the place :) I've taken pics of it for the past couple years. Will post one here once they are lit up.

Is that the place off Starr Ave??

Hey Jackie - Can we have some general idea for the location of your neighborhood? We love driving around in the evening looking at Christmas lights.

Southwest corner of Jackman and Temperance Rd. There is a church directly across the street where you can park. the guy's got his stuff all sync'd with music - 5 songs for the whole show. Stop somewhere on the way and grab a cup of hot chocolate and enjoy

I like some of the more "outrageous" displays around town...and I also like it when I see a house do it the "old fashioned" way: tasteful soft white (not multi-colored) lights and maybe some electric candles in the windows. Tree in the front window lit up. Peaceful.

That being said, you gotta really love Christmas to put up and take down all that stuff!

I love the houses that have a theme and coordination.

I see so many houses with like random stands of lights that just look terrible.. and then you have the houses that I call the Circus because there is so much going on!

There used to be a house off Alexis road in Sylvania kind of where it runs in to Monroe street that had a TON of those inflatables in the front yard. YOWZA.

All I can think of is how much Toledo Edison loves Christmas.

All I can say is that LEDs are your friend if you're going to put up lights. Plus, they "burn out" a lot LOT less than regular bulbs too. The only problem I have with them is that some of the cheaper strings have a definite flicker (likely due to a very cheap AC->DC transformer or something like that).

I still prefer Halloween lights myself:

The flicker comes from using a half rectifier rather than a full rectifier. It is commonly cheap way to convert AC to DC, A full rectifier converts both the up and down pulse of ac to a steady voltage, the half only cuts off the reverse pulse of AC, hence the flicker.

First block off of Conant in Maumee at 128 E. Broadway. A great dancing light display synchronized to music.

A lot of great lights along the entire stretch of River Road in Maumee and Toledo.

This made me laugh out loud today (sorry, I still spell "laugh out loud" with the actual words):

Break.com: 'Tis the Season for Sabatoge

Doesn’t seem like the guy who puts up Christmas lights for the city has any power, but he does.

Any updates?

I saw one street off Holland-Perrysburg a few streets from Heatherdowns that looked impressive one night last week. I've didn't go down it to really take a look at it but hope to tonight!

Point Place. Edgemont Drive. Cul de Sac. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Has to be professionally done. Never saw anything like it except on the Internet(s) - little nod to GWB there.
