Is anyone else upset over the fact that in July they said they would be closed for 4-6 weeks for remodeling…..now 5 Months later they are still closed.
Anyone know what’s going on with this!?

Is there one other than on Monroe near Douglas?
also, stooks.. i read that they are putting in a drive through
You have no idea what a tragedy this has been! LOL and yes only one in the entire city! I remember younger going to the one on Alexis by Ideal Hotdog!
They need to get it together! :)
I know they're looking for new spots to open more stores in the city.
The one on Central isn't open yet? I drove by last week and it looked like they were getting close... store looked brand new and the lights were on.
FYI, the word on the street is that Dunkin Donuts may be going in next to the new Five Guys in Maumee.
I've seen DD stores closed in the Detroit Metro area as well the last few years - most of them in very high traffic areas and typically "out front, on the street" of large shopping areas anchored by big name box stores. Don't know if their competition is that stiff or that folks simply aren't putting away the sweets the way they used to.
No on a Dunkin Donuts in Maumee, There is one in BG on Campus, the only other one is the one that they are having problems with in the north end.

I think at some point they must have changed the kind of oil they use for frying their doughnuts, as they just don't taste very good (or the same as they used to) anymore. Their fillings (custard, vanilla/chocolate frosting) aren't nearly as good as they used to be. Did they do that "no trans fat" thing or something?
The Dunkin Donuts on Conant has been MamaC or something like for a few years now.

It isn't the oil, the majority of chain doughnut stores do not bake doughnuts from scratch anymore. They come frozen to the store along with everything else.

Blade article from 9/16/12 says: "...in August a group of investors bought the former Fazoli's restaurant at 1398 Conant... SBW Capital Partners already have commitments for a new Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Radio Shack, and Dunkin' Donuts stores in their center."
OK. My bad.
This is the one in BGSU if that is what you were asking upso.

Haven't had a DD in years. Man I could go for one of those powdered, chocolate cream filled....and a humungous cup of coffee.
Do they seriously not make the doughnuts in-house anymore? That can't be right. I mean, that was kind of their 'thing'. You know: "Time to make the doughnuts" and all that.
Here is a story on Franchisees of Tim Hortons who just lost a suit on other grounds but it talks about their frozen doughnuts.
At most chains all they do is reheat your doughnuts, muffins, which is why most taste like crap. Your well known coffee and cafes who sell muffins, pastries etc are the same way.
"At the heart of the case, which began in 2008, is what the judge describes as the “Always Fresh Conversion,” a shift from fresh baking in each store to a system of industrial par baking and flash freezing at a centralized plant in Brantford, Ont., followed by reheating in specially designed ovens.
To say this shift was controversial is an understatement, like saying Canadians are fond of Tim Hortons. The truth is they are patriotically loyal to it, and the switch to frozen doughnuts and muffins was seen as a major corporate risk, and it was the subject of intensive consultation with franchisees."

DD and Tim Horton's never taste right to me anymore.
Now, Bakery Unlimited on Secor Road? I sometimes wake up wishing they delivered...
My wife worked at bakery unlimited when we started dating. She'd bring over a box of fresh goodies to my roommates and I at our house by UT. Now that is some good eats!
I'm thinking homemade doughnuts will be my salvation.
And salivation. chuckle
I lived in the apartment above Wixey's on Glendale for about 7 years. With Christie's across the street and Lickity Split right next door, let's just say I wasn't hurting for a fix when the sweet tooth kicked in. Oddly enough, after about the first month, the novelty of living above a bakery wore off. That is until I would wake up at 3:00 am to the smell of baking bread coming up through my floor.
oh man
i used to walk to bowsher every day for 3 years
wixey's in the morning year round, and lickety split on the way home when it was warm. good lord. so good
and this is coming from a type 1 diabetic (don't tell my mom!)
Inside scoop----Dunkin Donuts Opens Thursday Dec. 20.
upso is a REBEL. Awesome.

I received coupons for DD in the mail yesterday. So waiting to try their coffee. Hope it is as good as everyone says it is. As a new found coffee drinker, I have only had one cup that I found good and that was at Freeway on Navarre. Starbucks isn't that great and I didn't care for bigbys. Gas station coffee and McDonald's is alright.

I'm actually a fan of Panera's dark roast......it's pretty damn tasty.
"Haven't had a DD in years. Man I could go for one of those powdered, chocolate cream filled....and a humungous cup of coffee."
Haha. JeepMaker, so you're the one beating me to those donuts. They're my favorite, but they are nearly always out of them if I don't come when they open in the morning.
Mama C's on Conant one of the best. If a DD is opening at the former Fazoli's in Maumee, then they'll have some competition.
I am looking forward to trying their breakfast sandwiches... big variety. Now that they have a drive-thru, that kind of seals the deal for me.
Guys, Dunkin Donuts just opened up on 2709 W. Central Avenue... between Douglas and Cheltenham (by Food Town). There's a drive-thru too for all you lazies (myself included). MY fave stuff on the menu? The Dunkaccinos (coffee) and egg white flatbreads...
Oh yeah... I saw this deal, if you text COFFEE to 41911 you get a free donut with your purchase!
No Dunkin Donuts in Maumee! Sniff Sniff.

I remember when there used to be lots of Dunkin Donuts around.
I have a friend who lives in the Boston area who says you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a D.D.
Like Tim Horton's in Canada, I saw a Tim Horton's kitty corner from a Tim Horton's in London, Ontario Canada.

Bakery Unlimited on Secor Road has the best homemade donuts in town. They also got all of Hinkle's Donuts recipes which makes them double good.
I gave up on Tim Horton's or Dunking Donuts as they no longer taste the same.
Yeah, what happened to the Maumee store!?! Maybe it's still in the planning, or they are looking for another site where they can have a drive-through.
I'm not sure if Andy still owns DD on Central, but the place has changed and not for the better. New employees are not as good as before the remodeling. I'm guessing the drive-thru is giving DD more business but the lack of customer service seems to be like most other businesses these days.
Thanks, Jackie. Now I'm craving those 'things' from Hinkle's. Can't remember what they're called, but they were AWESOME. Flat. Like a strip. sigh
gamegrrl: those were Hinkle's version of bear claws. They were mighty tasty.
I miss Hinkle's.........
I had heard that the doughnuts for the Secor road store were made over at the store at Suder and Benore, where Hinkles used to be.

I think it is the other way around LC. BU did not move into Hinkle's old space at Suder and Benore. They moved into one of the other deserted store fronts.
It doesn't appear to me they have any baking equipment in there. That said, I haven't been in there for a couple of years so things may have changed.
When my wife worked at BU around 2001 or so, they did all the baking on secor.
