Forresters on the river?

is this place open yet?

http://www.toledonewsnow.com/story/20367350/forresters-on-the-river-prepares-for-opening

I had some friends drive over on 12/21 when it's said to be open, but at 930 it was dark - kinda late, but only kinda...

anyone have any news on this place?

I just had a garbage salad the other day. Son was home visiting from Philly and I just had to introduce him to the wonder that is Grumpy's while he was in town!

Mmmm... garbage salad...

My hope is that some day, that property will be managed by a person with no mugshot.

Manager name plus google equals mugshot. Perhaps one day this chain will be broken.

Or maybe that is to be expected in the bar business.

Before we jump to too many conclusions, does anybody actually have any info outside this picture? It says he was arrested for assault, and his face is pretty beat up, so I'm guessing he was involved in a fight. And an arrest doesn't equal a conviction, so until we know what the circumstances were, let's leave the pitch forks at home.

Like I said, perhaps it is to be expected in the bar business. There has been a steady stream of young people running that place since Tom Cousino's son was in charge, and in my opinion, none of these young people were up to the task.
Perhaps this time will be different.

I know a lot of young people who make it to 25 without an assault charge, and I applaud them for that.

But hey... young Forrester is a public figure now. If he was beat up leaving a Leadership Toledo meeting, and it was all a misunderstanding, he should get the mugshot removed.

NPR just ran a segment on this very thing, in Toledo of all places. Mug shots appearing on websites do not get removed, even if the person in question is acquitted of the charges.

Yeah. The Blade ran a similar piece on the same story a couple of weeks ago.

Here is a line from the article that you posted, which is a little different from what you suggest:
"Most mug shot websites do offer to take down arrest photos for free for people who, like Lashaway and Kaplan, have had their charges dismissed."
Of course, they have to ask. Personally, I would be anxious to get them removed if I had ever been arrested.
I personally think that it is an unfortunate use of public information.
If the prior managers had not had plenty of colorful past history, I wouldn't have thought to check to see if young Mr. McQueary did also.

I'll probably be tempted the next time too... if the next new manager is under 25 and unknown to me.

Well at least he appears "well fed" so maybe that's a testiment to the food.

I can't find any open or ajudicated criminal case (not even a traffic ticket) in either Oregon Municipal Court or Lucas County Court of Common Pleas, so I'm thinking the charges were dropped.

This is a case where it would be wise for him to ask to have his mugshot removed. Probably a case of young and dumb or wrong place, wrong time.

Either way, let's wait until we find out how well the restaurant is run, how good the food is, and how people find the experience to be, then judge them based on that. These guys seem to have a more qualified restaurant background than the previous attempt.

Amen. There's a huge difference between 100's of thousands of dollars in unpaid taxes and judgements plus being refused admittance to the bar ( the previous owners ) and having a one time fisticuff altercation that never resulted in a trial let alone a conviction.

But again, as in the previous owner's case, the Blade seems unable to get the whole story. What the hell happened to thorough research before reporting a story? Are they so arrogant that they think regular folks cant find these things out?

Yes, I believe they are - and, sadly, I think they're mostly right that far too many people simply read their (often) yellow journalism and trust it as the gospel.

25 year old reporters making (maybe) $30,000 a year. Whattaya gonna do...

What the hell happened to thorough research before reporting a story?

In a newspaper that is 80% wire service content, with a downsized newsroom, we're lucky they haven't outsourced "local" news reporting to the Philippines.
(And the source for that blogpost: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/radio-archives/episode/468/transcript)

Are they so arrogant that they think regular folks cant find these things out?

Yes. For the reasons Foodie stated and others.

"Probably a case of young and dumb or wrong place, wrong time."

Probably. I am sure that the dumb and wrong place parts have changed. The young part has not... yet.

It was just my reaction when I realized we have a recently "troubled" youth again at the helm.

Hope it goes great. Barring any complete catastrophes like a long, excruciatingly protracted bridge closure, it could work. I know that it worked ok for Tom for a while.

But if it doesn't.... I want to not see the next manager's face in a post bar fight mugshot. Maybe the only way for that to happen is to not look.

Nothing to see here folks.

The charge was from 2010 for "Assault on a Peace Officer" in Franklin County and was dismissed.

He's only got one speeding ticket. My past is more checkered than his.

Hell, we all have a past, some are just more checkered than others.

For all we know, the poor guy got arrested for breaking-up a fight involving an undercover Columbus cop who fought back and then pressed charges for the hell of it. In any event, the charges were certainly dropped. It sucks that the mugshot company posts them online without regard to case disposition.

If the original comment about managers with mugshots at that property was in poor form, I understand. My bad.

On the topic of this particular kid, he's too young to know what kind of man he will be. If his father is an indicator. I'm sure he'll be fine. He's a young guy. This endeavcr is a great oulet for his energy. I'm willing to wait and see.

Thank you, Billy! I was wondering the same thing. How revamped is the menu and is it any good? (And I will sneak in a "yum" for the garbage salad, too.)

I went last week, and enjoyed it. It was about 7 on (I think) a Tuesday, wasn't very busy. Service was prompt and friendly (a big change from when it was Admiral's Grille). I got the pork chop and was pretty satisfied. Not the best I've ever had, but I'd definitely get it again. The lady had a steak (she's from Nebraska, so red meat is kind of like religion to her) and was raving about it afterwards. I could stand to see a bit more added to the menu, but they just opened, so I'm not really holding that against them. Prices were fair, considering it's not supposed to be casual dining. I think my only real complaint, which would be one of personal opinion really, is that I'd like to see them more focused on sea food. I know there's Real Seafood right next door, with "Forresters on the River," looking out across the water... some oysters or something would be a nice addition.

Yes, for lunch. I think the best I can say is it was cheap? I had one of their flatbread pizzas and it wasn't very good, nor described properly on the menu.

I am interested in trying the place out for dinner... someday... maybe.

I was there with my wife for lunch a few weeks back. The burger was good and I liked the chips - fried in house. I suspect many would consider them greasy though. My wife was not thrilled with her chicken, I can't even remember what it was exactly. That's probably my biggest impression of the place - it is pretty easy to forget. It wasn't bad, but nothing stuck out about the place.

In the last 6 months I have seen a number of new businesses that don't set aside enough money for advertising. When you are entering a new market you better have an impact. Hoping word of mouth and social media is going to get you up and running is a fools plan. One new business in town was using yard signs. Way to cheapen your brand before you even start.

"Fools Plan."
Really? You think that there was an actual plan?

Hmmm. What will we call it? We need a name that inspires visions of dining excellence and hints at the type of food available.

I know... let's use your middle name.

How do you decide on the rest? Flip of a coin?
