Yeah. 1/2 hour ago we had to say the final goodbye to our "Jack" 14 yrs old. Losing your dog sucks.

Good to hear Rocco was reunited with his family! So sorry, Holland, for your loss. Fourteen years old is a full life, and I know, too, how much you love your pets, so he had a very loving home. Wish we could have them longer. RIP Jack.

Holland: I'm very sorry you lost your dog. The only bad thing about owning a dog is that you'll likely outlive them.

Thank you all for your understanding. Its a big loss for me, for us. He was a tiny guy but had a HUGE personality. Eyerybody that ever met him just loved him.

So sorry to hear of your loss, Holland. No matter how long we have a pet, it's never long enough.

The reason we no longer have dogs in our lives is because of the pain it causes when they die. I felt like my heart had a hole when the last dog left us.

I understand that jackie. I truly do. We went 12 years between dogs for that very reason. But we'll never wait again. There are just too many dogs out there in need of a good home and the joy they bring while they are here with us is immeasurable.

Same here Foodie. We will get another. Not now. It just too darned raw right now. But our hearts are open to another. There's a dog out there somewhere that needs us and it will happen when its right.

We got Jack quite by accident. He gave us 13-1/2 spectacular years. My guess is that the next one will come the same way. When we least expect it. Our vet knows us well. He's also a shelter vet. When we stop crying every time we look at that empty bed I'm going to call him. Jack wouldn't want it any other way.

Hate to see people lose their treasured pets, so sad. My oldest dog, Abbie is now 13 years old and probably will not make it to 14. I was up to 3:30 this morning with her, but will do it again tonight if necessary because she's my girl

I know right where you are at Hoops. Our last weeks with Jack were around the clock. Good days, then declining days, then good days again. Home cooked meals, tight medication schedule, lost bladder control. Finally clusters of seizures. No more could be done.

I still feel mighty ripped. God Bless you and Abbie. Hang in there.

Sorry, Holland, that you lost your sweet boy Jack. He left you with fond memories. I know it can take a while to adopt another one. At one time, I adopted another shelter dog within a few months. But the last time I lost my dog, it was too hard to get another one. I think it was because she was so special. I didn't even want to go home after she died because she was the first to greet me at the door. I now have pets, but no dogs. Maybe some day. God Bless you, Holland, for adopting all those shelter/rescue pets! And I know Jack thanks you, too!

Holland, I am so sorry for your loss. I know that heartbreak very well. We had to put down our 14yr old Australian Kelpie last Spring and I seriously thought that my husband would never get over the grief. There are so many rescue groups with great pups that need fostering or foreverhomes. We are not ready for another dog so I support the rescues. I just sent a check to The Lucas County Pit Crew to help with the medical bills of a dog named Mr Jenkins. He Has a horrific open wound on his head that will require a skin graft. In spite of this awful wound he had a big smile in the picture they posted.
Take care...xox
