Dunkin' Donuts Disappointing

I have anxiously awaited the opening of the completely remodeled Dunkin' Donuts on Central Avenue. I love Dunkin' Donuts coffee, which I typically only would get when in the East (since the previous Dunkin' at that site was a little questionable).

I have visited the coffee shop several times since its first day back right before Christmas and have had progressively worse experiences. The dounts and coffee taste fine--although the donut selection is inconsistent--but the service leaves much to be desired. I can't say it's because they don't have enough people working or that the employees are not friendly, but they are woefully incompetent. It appears to be a training issue because most of them wonder around like lost puppies. How much easier of a job can there be than filling up coffee cups and putting donuts in boxes?

From the look on the faces of the other customers who joined me in line, they won't be hurrying back. I hope the management can straighten out the problems soon.

Some people were curious why the store was closed so long for the remodel. Now the service. Word from a good source is that the previous franchisee had been approached repeatedly by corporate to sell back to the company. He finally relented which led to the remodel. I have not heard why the remodel/reopening took so long, but I would assume it was due to the sale in some way.

Since the reopening, there have ben numerous complaints about the slow service and overall poor attitude of the new staff. They are incredibly slow at just about everything and they are not so nice. You are not alone in your observations, Elva. OK, chances are they are all new hires because the familiar faces from the previous owners are not present. Reality was, the previous owners did a lot of the work themselves, so some of this was inevitable. Only time will tell if corporate can get things back on track, but so far things are not looking up.

Word from a better source, the owners (same as before) came around on Dec 19 to some of their business customers in the area with free donuts and told them they were reopening the next day. That was how I knew on the other post when they were opening.

I completely agree. The drive thru takes forever even when no one is in line. I hope they fix this.

swung through today and the drive through was great. i asked for light cream in my coffee, and the pleasant young lady serving it up asked me to take a sip and make sure I liked it before I left. I thought that was pretty cool.

Interesting, OT. I have asked about the store a couple different times and gotten the same story. My source seems very familiar with the folks who operated that shop. Nevertheless, sorry about the seemingly bad information.

OT, do you know what happened to the previous employees? They were always fast and mostly friendly.

Actually I need to apologize, It seems my source was not in the office when the donuts were dropped off and assumed it was the original owners (an Indian couple who lived in Ottawa Hills). The place has a new owner Tim Lanier. I have no idea about the employees, but the McDonalds on Alexis at I75 was closed for rebuilding and when we went in on opening day the service was terrible with all new people
