Maine outlaws novelty lighters

Where was the Mother when this incident happened? But then, it's far easier to let the state and its guns do your parental work for you-while screwing over adults.

Roo-uhlz 4 kidz in Storz:

1) Stay withing arm's reach of the parents at all times. No exceptions! Zero tolerance!

2) Do not handle the merchandise unless Mommy and Daddy are going to buy it.

3) Stay quiet. Do not interrupt, do not whine, do not cry and throw a tantrum.

These are zero tolerance rules. Violators will be removed from the store and the behavior adjusted.

So tell me, where were the parents while the child was playing with a lighter? Why aren't the parents responsible for the child's bad behavior?

This is the kind of law we need a lot less of. The law that will never get written or enacted is the one that holds the parents criminally responsible for their children's behavior. Let the parents go to jail for a few days for disturbing the peace, trespassing, assault and criminal mischief. Put the kids in CSI while the parents are cooling their heels in the slammer. See if the behavior changes.

Overparentalism laws are pacifiers to incompetent whiny parents. It keeps them quiet until the next thing to whine about.

Darkseid said:You filthy stinking pig.

Which is a clear and concise opening for the diatribe to come. Then we read: I don't like you,

I don't like you? This might be a little mild, don't you think? Then you finish up with: you swine-you reek of fascism.

This seems a little insincere to me. I was expecting something along the lines of you fascist jack booted son of a two dollar crack whore!

What's up with this "I don't like you" drivel?

Kids have always been facinated by lighters & matches - long before novelty lighters arrived on the scene. I find it hard to believe a six yr old did not know it was a lighter. Personally, I kind of wonder when I see all the novelty lighters at the gas station - 1) where can I get a job designing these suckers? 2) who buys this shit (they are more often than not, difficult to even light) - but there are people who collect this shit, much like S & P shakers. I think it's silly to ban something like this. Especially when (drum roll...............) - The "experts have always advised mom & dad to never compare or disquise medicine to/like candy - even if it's to get the little troll to swallow the damned medicine. And yet - I have noticed that there are MANY meds & vitamins on store shelves, that are deliberately made to LOOK like candy - such as Gummy Bears, jelly beans, etc. I bet there are a lot of little kids who see that bottle of Gummy Bear vitamins & think "Gummy Bears!!!!!!!!!" I have also seen children's cold meds produced the same way.
Sounds hypocritical to me.
