An American Pope?

News is reporting that two American cardinals, Timothy Dolan (NY) and Sean O'Malley (Boston) are in the running to be named the next pope.

Given Dolan's ranking among the Survivor's Network of those Abused by Priests as one of the Dirty Dozen, I am hoping he isn't it.

There is no way an American will ever be named Pope. The U.S. holds so much political, military, and monetary power and the powers that be will never give the U.S. that same power in the religious world.

The new Pope may be black or white, but his worldview is sure to be both.

Would Father Guido Sarducci be considered American or Italian?

Milano's Angelo Scola, rumored favorite of the Amercan block, still in the lead with 9:4 odds. See all the current odds and place a bet at PaddyPower

Wow, in reading PaddyPower, I learned there is a Canadian cardinal named Thomas Collins.

Who would you like for Pope?

"I'll have a Tom Collins, please."

Just imagine what Jon Stewart would do with THAT!

It will never be an American for the reason above. Instead expect another European, probably an Italian.

Linecrosser - they voted and decided for one at 2 so Foodie is correct.

I think Linecrosser meant to capitalize the YOU instead of the WILL in his sentence.

Referring to the collective "we" LC - I'm not of the Catholic faith. Aside from the religious aspect, the Pope is also a Head of State - the Vatican. So, yes, "we" the world, have a new Pope.

This former Irish Catholic would still be going to Mass if he was!

Had not seen the news when I posted that, in fact didn't know there was a new pope until around 5 pm.
