No Blade follow up?

Remember the 18 year old that was killed a while back in Ottawa Hills from a single car acident?
The Blade reported that he was way over the limit for blood alcohol, especially being under age.
It was also reported that he had been at a birthday party, they even said what street the party was on.

Are we to believe that the autorities still don't know who supplied this young man with alcohol and let him drive home?

...and how about the UT student murdered in December. Why no further information about the circumstances behind that? It's amazing that during the Christmas break there were only 5 students living on campus--and they were all in the same building--and the campus police couldn't keep a murder from happening inside of that dorm.

I can't help but wonder if the owner of the home where the young man was given alcohol is someone influential (really rich).
Regardless if the homeowners knew about the alcohol, they, being the homeowners are responsible as they are viewed as the party hosts.

I would agree with your assessment JM. If the owner was some poor schlep from the East Side they’d be named in a heartbeat.

Sounds like something the Toledo Free Press should look into...

Where was the party at?

A couple of things my son told me about the party (he was not there but many of his friends were):

A lot of the people were outside (even though the weather was not good)and coming and going without entering the house.

He brought his own beer.

I can't remember for sure, but i thought he said there was no adult supervision. I will ask him tonight, though.

I've forwarded your comments to @BladeManagingEd

My take? When/if anyone is charged in this, The Blade will report it.

the party was in the "lunchbox" section of ottawa hills... not likely to be extremely influential family but rather normal middle class people who were willing to pay high taxes for very good schools. there were conflicting stories about showing up already drunk at the party, leaving the party hours before the accident, and kids trying to stop him from leaving. until facts are known the blade cant just report rumor.

the blade gave this a great deal of coverage early on... far more than as if it had happened on the east side or out in swanton. some cases are simple, some are not. either way there are layers of trajedy here...

as far as the UT case... yes, over the break put everyone in one dorm... all the other dorms can be locked down to keep possessions safe. NO... police can not in almost any random situation stop a petty fight from escalating into deadly circumstances; if people dont show restraint there is almost nothing civil society can do to stop madness on a fine grain level.

Looks like one two guys rooming together, doing drugs, freak out and one kills the other.

How are the cops suppose to stop this?

Nothing a ban won't completely fix and totally prevent.

Mind police, where are the mind police when you need them.

The young men at UT both had knives! I don't think that they do background checks for knife ownership. If they do I am in deep shit as I have a whole kitchen drawer full of very fine German cutlery!

The problem is you were all expecting the Bland to do something related to journalism. They aren't in that business anymore.

The longer we hear nothing more about this, the more firmly I believe it's getting swept under the rug.

Hi JeepMaker!

I thought that Justread said it all, above. Please take a look at the link and see if that helps?
