Post Walleye Fishing

So I think walleye season is over. My jigs and left over tails are in their carrier, I didnt get a one, but the memories will last me forever (always next year).

Toledo I feel isn't just Walleye fishing, for those anglers on the forum what's next? For me I will pretty much fish anything. The joy is in the catch and release (and possibly keep if it's good) but mostly release.

Getting a charter is pretty expensive so out of my league (so far) but for the Maumee, Metzgars marsh. Where else is it fun to fish? What do you recommend using? I guy I used to work with keeps talking about local ponds, damns and water quaries (though I dont work there or talk to him much now).

Till Oct when I go salmon fishing in Michigan (St. Johns intake) fishing is pretty much normal.. hook, worm, best of luck. So any tips, locations are appreciated.

Josh, this time of year there are white bass. Later in the summer try small-mouth bass or catfish on the river near Waterville.

I recommend wading with Tevas (sandals) and make sure you have two beers, one in each pocket. Cast both up and down steam but be careful of the bottom’s shelves. Use tubes (monkey puke is a good color). I’ve caught up to four-pound smallies that way and thoroughly enjoyed the bird life of the river.

Also, when the river really gets low you can find some stranded carp, which can be caught the old doughballs and treble hooks way or cast ants (artificial) using a fly rod.

Also, try Farnsworth Park on the Waterville side. At the shelter house wade in the rapids and cast upstream in the pools of deep water before the rapids. Rangers have told me of catches of steelhead and even pike.

Also, do try to find a farmer’s or other private pond, get permission, file down your barbs and catch and release till your heart’s content. This is also a good time to experiment with tackle especially ultra light. And whatever you do, lie about your catch ;)!

There are still some Jack's left in the river...but yea for the most part the walleye are done. Ditto on the White Bassin and Smallies. Also try the Portage for both these species. There are many in-land reservoirs that have both Crappie and Bluegill in spawn (Findlay, Rest Haven or White Star).
