A few weeks ago my wife spoke with a neighbor who informed her that police had chased an armed person through Pine Glen Park. That is the small little park between Elmhurst school and Secor Road not too far from St. Anne’s Hospital – it is not too far from our house. This person said that the police had also been using unmarked police cars around the park due to recent suspicious activity in and around the park. About a week later we were lying in bed about 1am and heard what sounded like a person running through our backyard. We took defensive measures and switched on all of the outside lighting but did not see anything. However, yesterday my wife found a pretty fair sized sharp butcher knife in our back yard in the ground not too far from the fence stuck in the ground. It had to have been dropped there within the last week. We called the police because there is no reason a knife like that would be in our backyard. We do not have children, nor do our neighbors and there is no activity of people going through our yard. A policeman came and I spoke with him for 10 minutes before he left with the knife. My purpose for reporting it to the police was in the event that any crimes were committed at knife-point in our neighborhood recently or if there were any night late chases through this neighborhood.
When speaking to the policeman he mentioned that recently there had been a rash of break-ins on Vogel Street though I have not seen these on crime reports. He said that two people had recently been arrested who were suspects in these breaks ins and since they were arrested the breaks ins have stopped. He also mentioned that the police were “dealing with” some homeless younger people that had been “camping” for lack of a better word at Pine Glen Park.
Not to try to create a sentiment of fear but this is in a relatively decent part of West Toledo. We keep our eyes open around the neighborhood for suspicious activity and try to be careful. Thought all this was worth passing along.
