Took my 14-year-old, 60k-mileage Altima to the dealership mechanic to diagnose an unpleasant thump-thump from under my car and they said an exhaust pipe is broken "between the midpipe and the tailpipe/muffler." I gather that a rusty spot snapped open.
They said they could replace the pipe -- at a parts cost of almost $400 before labor, ugh -- or "any muffler shop could probably weld it for you" for lots, lots cheaper.
I've looked at some Toledo Talk auto repair recommendations threads, but I'm not sure that this is a standard repair so I don't know if those recommendations work for me. Can anybody recommend a place that will weld a pipe for me? Also, how long does something like that take?
