If you're looking for a way to participate in Giving Tuesday,an amazing local charity, Food for thought, is looking for 150 Toledoans to give $10/ month to their organization. That $10, will feed several families and all of the money stays here. If you aren't familiar with Food for Thought, they do an amazing job of getting healthy, locally grown (often from the Farmers market) food to families in need. They treat people with respect and try to help empower people to ask for help when they need it.
Is this organization all volunteer or are some people paid for their work?
There is one person that gets paid to run it, Sam Melden, I believe the rest are volunteers.
This is in no way to besmirch the above-mentioned charity--it sounds like they do worthwhile work--but my charitable giving will continue to decline because of 1) the amount of taxes I pay causing my net income to decrease and 2) a 35% increase in my health insurance premiums. My disposable income is nearing zilch.
A friend of mine is on the board of a homeless shelter and she told me that fundraising has really been difficult. She suspects that it's a combination of things that have already occurred to decrease incomes and the uncertainty of things to come.
Tough times ahead.
