Does anyone know what upward or downward river events, construction, dam removals, or what has caused these flooding events. There have been several in recent years and before that, I don't ever remember this happening in that area.

Findlay has been flood prone for about a gazillion years, or at least since 1823, when the first town lots were plotted. The Army Corps of Engineers is working on a comprehensive water management project to better control water levels.
They keep building and building which = more concrete everywhere also. Less places for the water to go.
I guess I was zoned out, but I just don't remember the flooding being as bad as it's been around Findley. I do remember Peirce Construction building Flood Protection for the Corps in downtown Fremont in the early '70's.
My sister lived in Findlay for 25 years before moving to Florida last year and I've had relatives there for at least 50 years. They never saw floods like the first big one they had a few years ago. The relatives live upland but my sister bought a fixer-upper at the end of Liberty St, about 100 yards from the river, right where the old powerhouse used to be (there was a little 3-car parking lot and a marker right at the curve). The house was 75 years old and her inspector said there had never been flooding in the basement but it had had some water leakage. In the first flood, they got so much water it lifted their basement steps off the brackets and they had to replace them, my husband helped. Second flood, they got 2 feet of water up the first floor walls and the house was condemned. She lost her job the same week and had the time to spend at city hall, jumping thru hoops and doing the paperwork, and her house was purchased by the city, torn down, and her lot turned into city greenspace. We drove down there yesterday. Its under water way past where her house formerly stood.
Looked back thru my pictures. She lived just on the other side of the river from where Main St, 12, and 224 come together, so just a little bit north of downtown. First flood was on or around 12/1/06. Second, August, 07, was the killer. They were in their new house upland by Christmas. The city tore the old one down 4/17/09. Before 2006, the Blanchard had not flooded in her area, including downtown since 1913. Remember them calling it the 100 year flood?
Thank you nana... As I thought. The bad floods were a few years ago. And not much before that...
What put just how bad the flooding in Findlay was in '07 in perspective for me is the fact that I regularly attended meetings at the Findlay Inn. While I'm not sure of the distance between the Inn and the river, if you are familiar with it, the Inn sits on higher ground so to speak. At a future meeting - post flood cleanup/reconstruction, I was shocked when I was shown how high up the water had been inside the Inn - about 5 feet up the walls inside the building. That made the whole nasty event mind boggling to me.
Could be. But if I lived there, I'd repent, just to be safe.
