Toledo Talk

Local fitness center

they just opened a Planet Fitness right around the corner fm me. Kind of makes my excuses get thinner and thinner..

anyone have any experience with them? they're very cheap and I know the old adage about getting what you pay for, but I really dont need a lot - close as they are I more than likey wouldnt even use any locker room facilities - just show up in work out clothes and go home smelly...

any pros or cons?

We signed up as soon as they started taking memberships (I'm guessing you mean the Laskey location). I had reservations initially, but talked to a few friends who belong to other locations and they've all been pleased.

The weather has been preventing me from getting there too often lately, but when I have been able to go, I've been pleased. The staff are very friendly. When equipment has been out of order, it's been immediately addressed. My boyfriend really likes that it's open 24 hours. If I can ever drag myself out of bed at 5 a.m., I would love to go before work. For now, I go afterward. There was a definite (and expected) rush after New Year's. Even with the larger crowd, I have not had to wait for equipment I wanted to use. I have not used the locker room facilities. My boyfriend has showered there on a few occasions. I havenít heard any complaints, but I donít necessarily trust his standards. ;)

The only con Iíve encountered so far is the method of billing. If you sign up online, youíre required to provide banking information for automatic deduction. However, it appears if you sign up in person you are able to provide his credit card number for billing instead. So, if thatís an issue for you, sign up in person.

When I was researching it ahead of time, the majority of complaints I saw came from guys who are trying to bulk up. I pretty much discounted them, seeing as thatís not my purpose for being there.

If you don't like purple, though.... :)

I use Planet Fitness 3 days/week at about 5:30am. There is usually about 5-10 people in the whole place at that time.

I love it. I was a member at Bally on Monroe during its heyday and this club seems very similar.

Nice facility, nice equipment, big space. Cheap. You can't beat it.

One downside is that there are no classes (spin, zumba, whatever). So that kind of sucks. I know they do some group workout stuff, but I've never done it.

I've been going to the Sylvania location for almost a year and I really like it. It's cheap, no hassle and no frills.

I've never had any issues with getting time on any equipment I've wanted.
