Knife sharpening-

(did a quick search, didn't find anyone talking about this topic at all here yet)

Are there GOOD knife sharpening people in town? Not just a quick trip to kroger for a rough grind, but a person that actually can take time on a very nice knife to restore the edge?

You might check Kencraft or Woodcraft. I think have people that sharpen chisels and turning tools. They might do knives as well.

I could have sworn there was a previous discussion on this topic but my search didn't turn up anything either.

You might also check with Williams-Sonoma at FP Mall.

I think the topic before was the door to door knife salespeople.

Just called - the prices are reasonable. Most importantly, they can do serrated knives and my Global knives - they're a 15 degree angle, which is different from most other kitchen blades at 20 or 25 degrees. I'll check them out soon.

May 2012 - Where to get kitchen knives sharpened?

Suggestions from that thread:

  • Jo-Ann Fabrics
  • Michigan Saw & Cutter in Sylvania
  • Kroger in Spring Meadows
  • The Kitchen Store

HAH! I searched for "knife sharpen" and "knife sharpening". Didn't even think about plural or past tense for searches. Damn. Thanks, JR!

My thanks to EndCycle and JR. I have a half-dozen or so kitchen knives that need to be sharpened, and three fighting knives that I'm ashamed to take out of the house because they're so dull.

I stopped in to The Baker's Kitchen (aka and fka Thrush's Bakery from Glanzman Rd.) after work this evening taking my semi-annual perusal of their vast kitchen ware and gadgets collection. Managed to leave with a couple of sweets as well.

I asked them if they sharpen knives and the answer is yes. If I recall correctly, one to ten knives is $2.99 each and more is a lesser price but I forget what it was. Was too overwhelmed by all the kitchen ware. BTW, if you've not been there, do yourself a favor and check it out - especially if you are a baker. They have an amazing inventory of everything for the baker as well as restaurant supply and the home cook. They also serve some pretty tasty lunch items. And a decent selection of beer and wine.

For those that may not know, it's on the south side of Monclova Rd. between Keystone Drive (think Champion Windows) and Jerome Rd. though closer to Keystone.

I stopped by their store in perrysburg last week and was blown away. For such a small place, they are stocked with awesome stuff. I'll stop by this weekend- need to find a few baking supplies for bread.
