Toledo Talk

Election Results and General Brouhaha - May, 2014

But mainly general brouhaha. Here's the latest, courtesy of the local bird cage liner:

From The Blade:Primary Election Results Delayed in Lucas County

The primary election results were delayed well past midnight today partially because of the missing cards, but Elections Director Gina Kaczala said "we have other problems."

Yeah, they've got problems alright. Here's the source of the problems.

At the county's Early Vote Center, Mr. Stainbrook and Ms. Kaczala exchanged barbs [had hallway sex - MJ] before board member John Irish stepped in and told Mr. Stainbrook to "shut up."

I think it's likely John told him to 'shut the fuck up', and although I've never met Mr. Irish I'm betting he's large enough to bitch slap Stainbrook's narrow little ass all over the parking lot.

It isn't like Stain and Gina haven't had sex before. The Toledo University cops pulled Gina over for improper parking, then TPD busted the Stain for acting like an asshole. Check the link and the report.

Local leader stopped, cited by police

Police Report (unofficial copy)

Excerpt from the police report:
he [Stainbrook] was padded down for everyone's safety...

In case he slipped and fell or something, so he wouldn't hurt himself. I think this report was written by the UT police, as the TPD would never make an error like this one. Unless they had one of the K-9 officers write it. They don't teach those K-9 officers to read, write or spell worth a tinker's damn.

Along the same lines, did you vote yesterday? If not, why not?

Turnout was shameful. Lucas County has little to be proud of when it comes to elections.

"... did you vote yesterday?"

No. I did not know that we had something on the ballot. It's the first election that I missed since moving into the city more than a decade ago. But it's okay because months ago, I got inspired by others and retired from voting to spend more time with my family and to pursue other interests. I'm more interested in tomorrow's NFL draft.

I voted after work in Sylvania, where I figured the school levy would drive voter turnout. The polling place was DEAD when I got there and was just as dead when my wife voted later. Sad.

Good job, BoE. You fucked up again. I don't know what happened in District 2, but they messed up the City Council voting. I went after work yesterday and had to vote on a paper ballot for City Council. Mrs. Ace, who went earlier in the day, was given two separate key cards and told that one was for the City Council race and had to be used in one particular machine. The other one was for all the other races and was to be used in a different machine.

Sounds like things weren't any better down at HQ:

Mr. Stainbrook and Ms. Kaczala started trading barbs with each other — with Mr. Stainbrook accusing Ms. Kaczala of lying to the media regarding the missing cards. The two argued loudly and Ms. Kaczala stepped menacingly toward Mr. Stainbrook before board member John Irish stepped in.

The two seemed ready to fight before a deputy on hand to keep the peace split the two up.

“She lost five data cards,” Mr. Stainbrook, a Republican, said.

“Just shut up. Just shut up,” Mr. Irish, a Democrat, responded.

I don't know if the Stain thinks that this will somehow pave the way for the return of Gallagher, but I hope this would be the final straw for the Secretary of State and they come in and clean out the whole office.

The Stain must have not been too happy as he lost his Central Committee position to Bill Delaney. Wonder if Delaney and Gallagher will carpool down to Columbus for meetings, lol?

SoS has cleaned house before and removed all four board members; the board worked together much better until Stainbrook wiggled his way on it.

The Stain must have not been too happy as he lost his Central Committee position to Bill Delaney. Wonder if Delaney and Gallagher will carpool down to Columbus for meetings, lol?

The Stain lost his State Central Committee position, which doesn't mean a darn thing (despite mailings from the ORP, the State CC does not have control over Obamacare).

The interesting thing is that Gallagher LOST her county central committee position, which means she can't be elected as central committee chair. Stainbrook can still be the Executive Committee Chair (head of the party), but he lost his girl-friday on the central committee. I'm sure he'll just pull the puppet strings on someone else - goes to show though that the anti-Stainbrook crowd missed an opportunity to take him out.

I did vote, for whoever asked. And looking at the voter turnout is very interesting. According to the Election Summary Report at the BoE:

Total registered voters in the county: 312,412
Those who voted: 31,651
10.1%

Total registered in Sylvania School district: 39,195
Those who voted: 9,318
23.8%

Now if you take Sylvania voters out of the county tally:
Total registered: 273,217
Those who voted: 22,333
8.17%

Wow; now granted, Sylvania had a good reason to get out and vote.

Also, I think that Barbara Sears was probably a huge beneficiary of Sylvania's heavy turnout - as an incumbent, she should have had a much larger lead against an unknown opponent. Sylvania helped keep her in office, IMO.

Agreed.

The fact that Husted has not stepped in and taken total control of this farce is beyond comprehension. Come in, clean house, let's fill the positions with competent individuals and move on.

Unless Stainbrook is ousted as the Chair of the LCRP, removing everyone on the board does no good - the SoS is still obligated to appoint the board members recommended by the County Party. If Stainbrook still has control, he's going to recommend his minions and then control them like they were Siamese twins.

I still remember years ago when they were interviewing for Executive Directors and Meghan Gallegher got an interview - Stainbrook went to the interview with her! That's like your mommy calling your college professor about your grade.

Here's something kind of interesting: the video I posted above was embedded in the Blade's story about the election and was in the Blade's youtube channel.

The link below (can't figure out how to embed) is from 13abc.com and is the same altercation between Irish and Stainbrook but filmed from a different angle. You can see that the original video posted by the Blade was shot by none other than Meghan Gallagher. Since they use video without crediting her, it makes me wonder what other input Stain/Gallagher have in Blade stories about the BoE. Also, wtf was Gallagher doing there anyway? She doesn't work for the Board of Elections anymore.

Okay, here we go...

All I can say is that it was early and I hadn't had my morning snort. Or maybe I had and don't remember it. I don't know.

What we've got are two different women here. There's Elections Director Gina Kaczala who wants to hang Stainbrook from a meat-hook and practice a little free lance dentistry on him with a rusty screwdriver and a pair of pliers. Then there's Stainbrook's giggle-bunny, former Elections Director Megan Gallagher, who was bagging some time with her man in the passion pit and got busted.

Somehow, and no one knows just how the fuck this happened, at least no one who will talk to me anyway, but somehow I got the two girls mixed up.

Look, give me a break, okay? All cats are gray in the dark.

I don't think so - if you go back to the Blade now, their video has been replaced with Channel 13s clip - if it was their video, why replace it?

As to why Meghan was there, I believe she was an Election Observer - parties and candidates can have election observers at all polling locations to 'observe' the election. Now when I've served as an observer, I had to sit in a designated location and observe only - not follow around staff like she apparently did but Jon's pretty aggressive like that so I'm sure Meghan has picked up the same MO.

The short video that was posted was shot by Ignazio Messina, the guy standing next to Gallagher. The video was replaced with the 13 abc one because theirs was longer and captured more of the altercation.

Now I understand:

- why early voting is so important.
- why security walks people out when they get fired.
- why most people in Toledo don't vote.
- why the good ones don't run for office.
- why "union business manager" is the number one occupation among future Toledo politicians.

You are the parent. You will control the behavior of your little hellion, and you will teach him how to behave in public without causing a disturbance and annoying the people around him. Please remember that you, the parent, are a good deal larger than he is and if, at the end of the day, his tantrums and your size result in a certain amount of discomfiture to the seat of his pants, both of you will be better off for it.

Consistency, as many experienced parents will tell you, is the key here. It isn't the punishment, it's the surety that changes behavior.

Sure as hell worked on me! The threat of my dad's belt or my mom's favorite tool - a large, wooden spoon - kept me in line. Along with their consistent teaching of right, wrong and proper manners - all things apparently lost on Stainbrook.

Toledo BOE = banana republic.

In the meantime, people continue to vote with their feet. They want out.

1970 383,818 ---------
1980 354,635 −7.6%
1990 332,943 −6.1%
2000 313,619 −5.8%
2010 287,208 −8.4%

Est. 2012 284,012 −1.1%

Being a Republican in Toledo is the definition of throwing your vote away. The Dems run almost everything and this clown is the "leader" of the County party?
