Property Value / Taxes Adjustment

My home has been valued at $68k for several years now. I had it appraised at such by a professional. I am being taxed as if it were $85k.

How do I get my property taxes adjusted for it's current lower value?

Contact the county auditor. They will analyze it and adjust it.

Unfortunately the deadline to challenge your home value this year was March 31. You will have to wait until next Jan 1st for the chance to due it. Actually it is fairly easy as all you have to do is fill out a form and have examples of similar house in the area that have sold for lower prices. Your appraisal may already have those examples on it however, they prefer sales within the last 6 month for the time you file the paperwork.

Here is the rub, I swear we already did this.

A county auditor came out and everything. He was the one to appraise us at $68k.

What is the value shown on Aries for your home? I have done about a dozen challenges to values and been successful every time. However you can only do it during the Jan 1 to March 31 period each year.

Did you look your property up on ARIES?

Does anyone know when they update the tax info on ARIES?

The process isn't difficult. OldTimer explained it well.

I believe an open season exists from January-March next year. You'll need sales data from similar homes in your neighborhood. Try to avoid using auctioned sales and foreclosures.

I had mine lowered a few years ago and will be requesting once again in January.
