OLPH Festival

Looking for something to do today? Maybe take the kids out for some good, clean fun? The OLPH Festival is in full swing - today is the final day, noon to 7pm. We went both Friday and last night - and may go back this afternoon - the SO is rather addicted to Showdown Poker.

The bands have been great, the booze is not outrageously priced and the food..........well, two out of three ain't bad as the song goes.

They have the best carnival midway I've ever seen at a local festival. Games and rides galore for the kids and the kids at heart. My SO is still trying to convince me to go on the "Kamikaze" - I think not - though it was fun to watch smart phones, keys and other assorted bric-a-brac fall to the ground when the victims are upside down and helpless.

Supposed to be another beautiful day - pull yourself away from the box you are reading this on and go out and enjoy it.

Why "in God's green earth" (see how I worked The Big Guy in) did they send the kids home last night? Because someone said a gang fight was going to happen? That a gang was on its way? Is that how events are going to be handled?

Hmmmm...........first I've heard it. We left about 9:45 - still plenty of kids around at that time.

I have a great way to deal with the "gang on the way" once they arrive but I fear it wouldn't sit well with many here.

When I left at 8:15 or so, there were a lot of kids from outside the neighborhood milling about on the fairway. About 9:30, they shut it down to avoid any issues. This is a problem at a lot of the summer festivals, not just OLPH.

Dammit.
While we were all busy making gang maps, gangs were making festival maps.

Which is why there are so few summer (Catholic Church) festivals these days. Once again, we let the worthless, wandering shreds of human debris ruin the fun for the rest.

I should have added that there was a VERY heavy showing of LC Sheriff's both nights. I really don't think security would have been a problem.

I think security is one issue, but also the fact that the festivals are quite a bit of work for the relatively small amount of money they bring into the parish. I think it is about tradition and community as much as anything else.

Sorry upso - in my world, gangs = worthless, wandering shreds of human debris. These punks want to play Bonnie and Clyde, then take them out the same way before more innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

I have zero use for these punks other than.......well, never mind.

If you have a festival and gangs come, I would suggest giving them free cotton candy and grape drink. Hard to shoot or fight with your hands full of delicious cotton candy and grape drink.
