When did the branch downtown close??

After they added fees and charges for everything I left and went with a credit union, probably best move I could make, much friendlier and hardly any fees for normal items.
Charter One is the only bank in town which has never to my knowledge offered financial support to any local community events.
Never supported a festival, art fair, ball team etc.
That's fine Maria, if the saving were passed on to the customer.
Charter One is owned by RBS (royal bank of Scotland).
I was with them from 1998 to 2013. I noticed a decrease in service and increase in fees after RBS took over, so I doubt if the customer is saving anything by them not contributing to community events.
The money is probably flowing back to Scotland.
Yeah I used to bank with Charter and left them because of the crazy fees!
I just noticed while walking during lunch yesterday that they were closed and was curious why.
I had an account with them for a year back in 98 or 99 and closed it. Withdrew all of my money and moved to a credit union after some really unsatisfactory customer service at a local branch and a bad follow-up interaction with corporate (long story, didn't involve money but it was ugly and really put a bad taste in my mouth).
3 years later or so, without any prior communications, they pull me into collections for a LOT of money saying I had unpaid fees. I challenged them (I had documentation showing that my account balance was 0 at close and that no checks were outstanding, yadda yadda), so they pulled the collections off and took it off my credit report (it was a fraudulent claim). They then sold my account information to a 3rd party collections company who did the same thing. So I challenged them, and off it went again. Same thing was repeated every year up until a few years ago, when I actually threatened to sue the company holding the "debt". Not a peep since.
tl;dr - fuck charter one.
The downtown building that housed Charter One is looking a little rough these days. Bullet holes in the glass, tile removed from the sidewalk, and a hole opening it up to the weather.
All of this wouldn't really bother me, but I peaked in the window and I think that large and beautiful mural painting is still on the wall. If the owners are letting that paining be destroyed through neglect, that is a crime and a shame.
Areis is showing the owner as being CAD Tavern. I am pretty sure that is one of Dave Ball's companies. Interesting thing is it is showing the transfer was for $0 in 2006.
I worked in a building next to Charter One for a while and we did our banking at Charter One. Beautiful building inside. It's a shame what happened to that block, aside from Magic Wok I don't think there is anything happening on that block on Huron. It doesn't look promising Cilantro will reopen since they took down their facebook page.
