According to the UK Mirror, Aguilar was something of a selfie obsessive, with a “desire to take ever more impressive selfies and other snaps of himself to post on social media” as part of a growing collection that included photos of himself “in front of fast cars, sitting on expensive motorbikes, hugging beautiful women, and posing in a band.”
Reports suggest he had been “messing around with the gun” as he took the selfie, resulting in the accident that ended his life.
It's only the latest in a long string of selfie-stupidity. Fans of the Tour de France were recently chided for putting cyclists at risk, a woman was arrested after posing for a selfie in stolen clothes, and last year 19-year-old Depree Johnson was arrested after posting multiple photos of himself with weapons, stolen cash, and drugs on his personal Instagram account.
Come on, selfie-takers of the world. We have to be smarter than this.
Every generation is seriously stupid when they're young. All of em. Mine. Yours. Our parents. Our grandparents. Moses'. Etc.
It's not a generational thing. It's a youth thing. You're just hearing more about it because local reporting of interesting things now goes worldwide in a hurry in ways it never did before.
There just isn't evidence on the internet of our older generational stupidity, thank god. Well that isn't true either, you can see a whole lot of old black and white photos from any generation after the camera was invented, there just isn't that much that you can personally identify to anyone still living. I think also that by the time the internet along with the ability to share pictures came around, those who had photo evidence of themselves being stupid, were old and wise enough to not post them.
As far as Aguilar is concerned it was inevitable that at some point as he escalated into stupidity that he was bound to capture his own death as an ultimate selfie.
The Internet did not create stupidity, it just accelerates it.
