Anyone in the tanning business?

I am considering opening a small shop with a couple tanning beds. My partner is my 23 year old daughter whose second job has been at a tanning salon for several years. She is moving in August to a city where a number of her college friends live and she is convinced that there is demand in the area where they all work and live and that the demographic is right. Beyond that, she knows nothing about running a business, so I will keep her in line on that front. She will maintain a fulltime salary in the same line that she is in now and work at the salon at night and weekends as she does now but this time for equity, not cash which will lower our nut.

However, I don't really know anything about the particulars of this industry.

Is there anyone out there in tanning? What are your challenges? What do I need to avoid? What works and what doesn't?

Used to be very very low profit margin business. Haven't chatted with anyone in the business for a while. Maybe the beds and bulbs allow for less electrical usage nowadays, which would mean a better profit.
