HAPPY Fourth Of July

With all we feel may be wrong in the country; Let us not forget all that is RIGHT!

HAPPY 4th of July fellow Toledo Talkers!

God Bless America. I dont care what anyone says were the greatest country on the face of the planet and will be for a very long time. This country has liberated a billion people in its more than 230 years. We are the greatest country in the world not because of arogance, but because we value liberty or freedom if you will, for all who desire it. We have given our lives for those of other countries, have ask for nothing in return.

I will stress again, we all have our views and thoughts. Calling each other names and being idiots isnt going to solve the USAs or world problems..guess we just use it to vent at times. I'm sure no matter your thoughts most of you are good folks and want whats right for the common good of our country..

Only problem is, Downtown Toledo has not enough parking for their firework show. what do they think will happen when the hockey and baseball teams play on the same night.

I actually just pulled into the Superior Street garage and had no problem parking whatsoever. Course...It helps to have a monthly parking pass. :)

I thought the downtown show was very good with this one complaint.

I had my two nieces ages 10 and 5 with me. I didn't really care for the drinkers stumbling there way through our seating area with the beer spilling and the cursive language. Now, I don't profess to be a saint as I enjoyed those types of activities myself in my party days but do make this suggestion...

Maybe a section of The river front could be fenced off for use with a more Family Friendly environment. You coud not enter with beer, there could be a few more porta potties for the children to use without having to wait in mile long lines to enter a trashed restroom and maybe some family activities like beanbag toss, face painting, inflatable jump houses and that sort.

This may increase the attendence of families with young children because they could enjoy the evening as well as their adult partying counterparts while waiting for the fireworks to start.

I went downtown with a friend for the celebration around 7pm and was able to find parking on the street within 2 blocks of the riverfront. We even passed up a few lots that were only charging $3.00 which I think is very reasonable.

Granted, I didn't have kids with me but I didn't think the drinking was out of hand. (I enjoyed a large Leinenkugel Summer Shandy myself.) I also don't think there were any alcohol vendors on the other side of the river so that could be an option if you want to avoid any exposure to people who are drinking.

I think the whole event was handled wonderfully and I had a great time. The food was great (it must have been since Shorty's ran completely out of meat by 9pm), the crown was huge and well behaved in most cases and the fireworks show was spectacular. It was everything the downtown area should be in the summer.

It was great to see and better to experience. I want more!

yeah, the crowd was a little crazy last night, but no more than the usual semi-annual fireworks display...was a good time, Toledo pulled something good off for once! :) A+

Is someone comparing parking for 150,000 people versus parking for 10,000 to 25,000? LOL

According to everything I saw on the news there was supposed to be a section fenced off for the “family area” where no alcohol was to be permitted.

There may have been but I did not see it unless it was the grassy area where the old federal building used to stand. However there was no attendent preventing alcohol in this area, there were automobiles parked there and the view of the fireworks would have been obscured by the treeline for the young kids who could not see over the tops while sitting on their blankets.

If this was the area it was a poor choice.

Yeah, I believe it was the grassy area...
