Review: THE INCREDIBLE HULK

TEN OUT OF TEN STARS!! An EXCELLENT movie, a 'reboot' of the franchise similar to what they did with BATMAN BEGINS, this one will take the bad taste of Ang Lee's version (and those dumbass killer poodles) out of your mouth forever. Liv Tyler is 100% better as Betty Ross, The CGI hulk is damned near perfect (he really looks like he's in the frame this time, especially during one battle scene with the army), Ed Norton makes a great Bruce Banner, on and on-I only missed Sam Elliot as General Ross from the last one, but John Hurt did ok, although he plays his version a little slimier. Hulk finally gets a super-powered bad guy to fight, The Abomination (from the comics), and he looks great too. Pretty intense for younger kids, but great all the way around. Also, people actually get killed here, both by the Abomination and The Hulk, although Hulk's just defending himself. In other words, it's not as PC as you're used to with the Marvel character. If you put a rampaging monster with super-strength loose in a city,(and later two) there is going to be collateral damage, even if it's unintentional. Mixes much of the comic in along with bits and pieces of the old TV series . In fact, they pay tribute to Bill Bixby, and Lou Ferrigno (who looks THE SAME)in a cameo as a security guard. Highly recommened, especially if you're a fan or collector of Marvel comics, as I was back in the 60s through the 80s. They finally got the character right, although they (once again)change his origin a slight bit. They set up a few more characters from the comic series for the next one. Hmmm....and....what's happening to "Mr. Blue?"

Glad to hear it turned out well. I'm not a big hulk fan but enjoy the concept. I was a bit surprised when I read they were making a new one.

Hollywood is notorious for sticking with a formula, but the past couple years they seem to be taking that to an extreme. They're not even pumping out tons of sequels anymore but remaking first's over and over.

First thought, Hulk 1, (another?) didn't they just make another CG one a couple years ago.

Anyway rant over. If it's good then it's good :) Still need to see Batman Begins for the same reason.

Anyone know if it's playing at the Drive-in on Navare?

BTW Darkseid have you seen Hellboy II yet? I really liked the first and have been waiting for a second. Been hearing lots of good things so it's next on my list. Wall-E was great :)

Not yet, but intend to. I loved the first one too.

Well, saw HELLBOY 2, and while it was ok, it sucks compared to the first one. Too much fantasy here and not enough menace like you had with Krohner and Rasputin in the first one. The main villain here is an elf prince, but while he was a badass as far as fighting goes, I never got that sense of evil or menace I did in the first one (Hell trying to come through). First one I ranked a nine out of ten at IMDB, this one a six. If you hadn't seen the first one, you'd have a hard time figuring out just what's going on, because they jump right into it. There's supposed to be a trilogy at least-I hope the next one's better. This seemed more like a Lara Croft/Indiana Jones deal than Hellboy, although they do introduce one cool character, Johan Krause, who has to wear a special suit because he has no physical form anymore.

Best line in the movie (from Hellboy), IMO: "Well, I guess we're out!"
