2017 Toledo Mayoral Election Campaign

It's only mid-May of 2016, but current Toledo mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson apparently announced last night on May 12, 2016 that she will seek re-election in 2017. Oddly, she made the announcement during a Pete Gerken event.

Lucas County Commissioner Pete Gerken kicked off his campaign for re-election Thursday night amid a crowd of fellow Democrats and union supporters, and with plenty of knocks on his opponent, Republican Mike Bell.

During the event, he was endorsed by fellow Democrat Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson — not a surprise. The surprise was her announcement that she intends to run again in 2017.

Run again for what?

I think that it will be Wade Kapszukiewicz's turn to be mayor of Toledo.

More from the Blade story:

In her endorsement, Mayor Hicks-Hudson cited Mr. Gerken’s “passion, his preparedness.”

“I’m hoping that we will continue our working relationship. Not just his four years but for my at least six years because together we are going to make this community a strong community,” Ms. Hicks-Hudson said.

I don't see in the story where it states specifically that PH2 will run for mayor of Toledo in 2017. I'm inferring that she will seek re-election.

Without the cluster of 92 candidates on the same ballot, hopefully "Bob the Candidate" could easily beat her.

That will likely depend on how much the OH State Dems pour into her campaign (again) and if the union bigwigs put out the "Vote for PH2" directive.
'Cause you know, it's just so much easier to follow those directives as opposed to actually pay attention and make an informed decision about her performance on your own.

Good point. I'm still not sure which is worse. Local elections controlled by unions telling their members what to do without thinking, or the populace voting for the person that preaches "Faith, Family and Freedom" the most. Talk about getting whiplash moving from one area to next with completely different election dynamics. lol

When Tom Troy wrote:

The surprise was her announcement ...

Was Troy surprised, or was he saying that local democrat leaders were surprised at PH2's announcement?

It seems strange to upstage Gerken a bit at Gerken's event.
