My husband and I just returned from a long weekend in the southern/Lake Erie area of Ontario visiting the wineries of the region. I am an avid wine drinker and like to explore new wines whenever possible. If you like wine (or are just looking for an excuse to get away for a few days) and have never been to our Lake Erie neighbor, you really should try it. It is like Napa, only no crowds, no traffic, friendly people and great wines to try at an affordable cost. It seems to be a well-kept secret. Anyone else ever been out there? What did you think? I can't wait to get back there to try some more. Wonder why there are not more wineries in the NWO region???

Hopefully the wine is better than the service. Something tells me somebodys relative is the "hostess" there cause she was not fun at all. We all had fun laughing about it though. Never tried the wine, but loved the drunken mussels.
Well-kept secret or speakeasy?
MADD's neo-prohibitionist policymakers are on to you. That's why it's a pain to get into Canada. That and buses of seniors saving money on drugs they don't need.
If you like the dry reds, Pelee Island Winery has a good one- Cabernet Franc. You can find it in Toledo. The label has a silver fox on it.
The reason there are not more wineries in NWO is because of the micro-climate that the lake provides. The growing season is longer than, say, 50 miles inland. This applies not only to vineyards but fruit orchards as well.
I did try that one and bought a bottle. It's very good. Thanks for the additional info flinty!

Ever try Mon Ami winery's stuff. VERY good.
