We made another pilgrimage to La Paloma over the weekend. Still, without a doubt, the best tamales in the area. Also picked up some Mexican rice and refried beans - they were in containers next to the bags of tamales. Both were outstanding but the beans - were......well, they were so damned good I went back in the afternoon to get more but they were gone. The fellow behind the counter said his grandmother makes the beans and the rice on the weekends - I've never seen them there before - and I should come back Sunday morning - which I did - and scored some more.
Their salsas remain excellent as well. Also bought some Barbacoa. Amazing stuff.
Went to Teleras' bakery yesterday am after leaving La Paloma - I had not been to Teleras previously. We grabbed a couple of sweets - which were wonderful but it was quite obvious we got there far too late - about 10:30 - the supply of goodies was quite low. We learned that they open at 7am Weds through Sun and have tamales and other more savory items on the weekends.
It is great to see these small family owned places sprout up and obviously making a go of it.
