Finally made it down there this morning to try and snag some tamales - success! Oh my, are they good. Much better than San Marcos' tamales.
Also grabbed some of their home made red and green sauces (also outstanding) and a few sweets for good measure - haven't torn into the sweets yet.
Thanks to whomever mentioned this little gem. I tried searching for it here but came up with nothing. Otherwise I wouldn't have started a new thread. Also noticed that Taqueria la autentica michoacana is nearby - another place I want to check out.
Foodie- LA Paloma also has empanadas on the weekends. It can be tricky to time out since the hours vary as to when they're available and they also only make a limited amount. But definitely worth the trip.
Try and get some of their barbacoa and then go up the road to Texmex and buy their tortillas.
Thanks for the suggestions - I will definitely give them a try. When I was there Sunday, one of the ladies was bringing out containers of freshly made Menudo. I was tempted but had other errands so I'll leave that for the next time.
BTW, the pastries I bought were outstanding. Tender, flaky and delicious.
Thanks for the heads up. This is the first I've heard of this place. I love Mexican and will check it out soon.
And don't forget the other place I mentioned: Taqueria la autentica michoacana. I did not get there yet but it is on the same side of the street just before you get to La Paloma.
I'd call La Paloma sort of a food truck without the truck.
What's a good time to get to La Paloma on the weekend to get some empanadas?
Good question Breeman. It's actually a little game a couple friends and I play. Been there at 12:45 and they're sold out. Been there at 1:00 and they're not made yet. I admit it's inconsistent but a nice treat when available.
Friday afternoon is prime time for a sack of tamales.
Two thumbs up on the La Paloma tamale suggestion. Thanks Foodie. I also enjoyed their sauces too. Was encouraged by the girl working there to come on the weekend as well.
Glad you enjoyed Danneskjold. I can't wait to go back.
I can't wait to check them out. I love good Mexican and will be nice to have an alternative to San Marco's.
Keep in mind this isn't a sit down restaurant - at least AFAIK - it's a grab and go kinda place but definitely worth the trip.
