Store Name??

Trying to remember the name of the now closed book store that used to be
next to Target on Monroe Street. I think it was a national chain that sold
books, cd's and movies (VHS tapes) before DVD's came out. They even had
some sheet music. Great store but the chain eventually went bankrupt.
Interesting how I can remember all the details, but not the name. Must be
my senior citizen brain. Thanks in advance if your memory is better than mine.

They also had a store in Spring Meadows. I think it was where Best Buy currently is. I remember hearing that Media Play was under a long term lease at Spring Meadows and that is why they relocated the Airport Hwy store when that lease expired.

I LOVED Media Play! I parted with so much of my money there it scares me to think about it.

Once DVD's arrived and the end was near for Laserdiscs, Media Play lowered their LD prices to bargain basement levels so I traveled far and wide to Media Play stores all over Metro Detroit and loaded up.

I now wonder why I did that. I have a huge LD collection - many movies still in the wrapper, never opened. Why? Because LD's look like crap on HD TV's. You really need a standard def TV to appreciate the LD technology that was state of the art at the time.

That said, I still drag out some of my favorites from time to time - especially the LD's that are live concerts. Many have awesome soundtracks and are not available on any other media. For example, the LD of Yanni Live at the Acropolis with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (awesome!) has a soprano duet at the end of the LD that was never repeated on the CD or DVD version. I never get tired of that LD.

Sorry for the ramble but Media Play brings back some fond memories.
