Fall softball?

I have 2 daughters 8u and 10u that want to play softball. I see the wizards but nothing else. Anyone know of any other local leagues?

I don't know if the Suburban Girls Softball league (SGS) does fall ball or just summer ball.

Here's the website - there's probably contact info where you could find out:

Sylvania Rec also has a fall softball league:

There are several other local organizations, including:

Great Lakes Sharks
SGS Magic
Lady Irish
NWO Heat
Finesse (just moved into NWO from Michigan, good teams not sure if they have much in the way of organization here yet)
Fusion (out of Sylvania Rec - have to live in district)

Wizards is a great organization, my daughter played for them for several years before she decided to play for a travel team out of Columbus that was more on her competitive level (Wizards had a team at that level, but little turnover of players at that point so she couldn't get on it).

Wizards has two indoor practice facilities for winter time practice, as well as five (I think) local fields for dedicated outdoor practice. I believe the Sharks has an indoor facility of some sort for winter practice.

Wizards probably has the most teams - they usually field 25-30 team each year, so 2-4 per age group. Each team is usually at a slightly different competitive level, and different cost as in how much or how far they travel. There are Wizard teams that travel to Texas, Colorado, etc. for tournaments; some of the other organizations have teams that go that far too; This is usually at the older, college-recruitment level of 16u+. So not only are their team fees, there may be travel costs. This summer is costing me about $2,500 to get my daughter to 7 tournament weekends (that's hotel, food, gas, gate fee, etc).

There are some local 'rec' leagues, like Fusion from Sylvania Rec. Don't know the other areas, but typically the rec leagues are based on residency; they are not playing at the same level the travel teams I listed above play at. In fact, it's not pretty when a rec team plays a travel team.

Sorry if you know all of this stuff, but my daughter started at 11 and we weren't quite prepared for the competitive nature of it so I thought I'd give you a heads up. At 10U, some of those girls will have been playing for 4 years.

Oh, one other thing - tryouts for travel ball (so summer tournaments next year) will be coming up shortly in early August. I've already seen some coaches putting out tryout calls for late July.

Rec leagues will have 'tryouts' next spring. Rec leagues tend to take everyone, but if they have more than one team per age group, that's where the tryout matters. (Honestly, the travel teams have taken up so many players that rec leagues usually can only field 1 per age group.)

Novrain, if that's the area you live in, jr lady Panthers is your "local" team. In my experience coaching and watching my 11 year old play since t ball, it is best to have at least a season playing slow pitch to get the fundamentals down. WTGSL has been good for that. Some girls can hop right into fast pitch with no problem. Good luck.

Just add to my username and I'll get it. That's probably easiest at this point. Thanks
