Annoying Buckeye Broadband Data Cap Warning

Ugh....Buckeye Broadband has the most annoying message flashing when you are approaching the data cap limit. It used to be that you could click an acknowledgement once or twice and be done with thew warning.

Now, the warning pops up every five minutes or so for an instant, especially if you are on a page and remain on it for a few minutes. The effect is almost like a subliminal message: quick image, then gone. It comes and goes so fast that it is even hard to get a screenshot, but I finally managed one:

Buckeye Broadband

Anyone else getting this annoying message every few minutes? It happens no matter what browser I use, and it also appears on my phone when I have the phone synced to the WiFi.

I had Buckeye 1 until a few weeks ago, I believe it was $85 a month for my bill. Buckeye 1 was 50Mbps DL and 5 Mbps UL.

I called and dropped to a new plan that was 50Mbps DL and only 3Mbps UL and I upgraded to the unlimited plan for an additional $20 and I believe my new bill will only be $5-10 more, so worth it IMHO.

Maybe now I can start watching GoT and binge watch all 6 seasons without having to worry about going over.

I get that popup, which is annoyingly intrusive, once, hit OK, it goes to another page, I hit OK again, then it goes to the page I wanted.

This only happens whenever I hit whatever increment Buckeye deems worthy of my attention.

I've been getting it too. Thinking about leaving Buckeye for ATT. They seem cheaper and offer more. What's been your experience with them?

I just went online and bought a modem/WiFi thatís on their list of acceptable modems so I donít have to rent theirís. Called to have them switch it and they said it had to go through a couple other steps then they would call me back to set up the rest. Never called.

Called them back a couple hours later and they connected me to technical support who refused to help me because itís not their modem. All I wanted was my isp address and they kept repeating they same line. We canít help you because itís not ours. Very rude customer service. Sorry you canít rip us off as much!

But I do recommend just buying you own modem/WiFi unit as it was only $20 instead of $10/month. Fairly easy to set up as well

Which one did you purchase? I'm interested in doing the same

I got the first one on the list Arris DG860A. Paid $20 with free shipping. I tried finding the store that I ordered from but no luck. Once you call and give them the numbers on the modem it was pretty easy to set up the WiFi with a computer

They wouldn't help set it up at all or just not your Wi-Fi?

The last time I asked about using my own modem from their list of approved modems, it seemed to be there were a ton of steps on their end that they need to do, including a visit to my house to "certify" everything. Seems like they were trying to make it as difficult as possible, surprise, surprise.

They set it up on their end, just needed to give them a code thatís on the actual modem. However, I called them back asking what my isp address is and they refused to tell me. They just repeated the same line about 5-6 times before I hung up. You need the IP address to login to your modem to set up the WiFi. I simple google search did the trick

What is an ISP address? I had no problem switching to my own modem in April.

Thank God I have Toast and don't deal with data caps.

The ISP address is where you send the bill.

ISP=Internet Service Protocol.
Think of it as your unique home address. Every device connected directly to the Internet has a unique ISP address.

Static or dynamic?

Depends on what you order/pay for/your provider offers. I believe Buckeye assigns a static IP address.
Devices on your side of the modem depends on how you've configured them and set up your router.

It looks like a few comments have been deleted. Someone was asking Buckeye to tell them their Isp address, I know ISP=Internet Service PROVIDER. I was curious as to what information they were looking for. I suspect they were wanting to know their IP address to configure the modem/router.

Well, after a fresh look at this thread, I realize I took temporary leave of my technical senses and totally crossed my "ISP's" and "IP Addresses." Should have left the topic at justread's answer.

I've severely reprimanded myself and will be serving out my punishment later today.

Merry Christmas to all !

I can't believe any of you are still using Buckeye. This is the 21st Century people.
