Buckeye or....??

Thinking about leaving Buckeye for ATT. They seem cheaper and offer more. What's been your experience with them?

I preferred buckeye but am seeing some complaints about capped usage.

I switched three or four years ago from BEX to AT&T and AT&T seems a lot slower than buckeye. I had a bundled deal with Direct and AT&T and when my contract is up thinking of switching everything back to buckeye or at least WIFI. The one thing I will miss about Direct though is they have the HDMI wifi boxes you can switch between TV's without having to have a cable outlet and there are a couple channels Direct has Buckeye doesn't

At least with Buckeye when I had them I wasn't under a contract. AT&T also requires you rent their modem and if you have to go through customer service I always get transferred a couple times and every time I've renewed a contract my bill ends up being for more than I was quoted.

As much as I despise the Block/Buckeye monopoly I will say Buckeye has great customer service

Buckeye now has contracts. I don't think they're required, but to get better rates, you have to sign. The beauty of the deal for them is, they can jack up your rates anytime during the contract. You're not locked in at a rate. You pay a fat fee to get out of it, too.

Sure, you can get your own modem for Buckeye to avoid their monthly rental, but their "approved" list is minimal. Then, you have to have it set up by them, with an appt, with probably a fee. They don't make it easy. At least it was last time I checked.

Service is definitely not what it used to be. Used to be I could call pretty much anytime with no wait and speak to someone knowledgeable. Last several times I've called I've had to wait and the person didn't seem to know much more than me about their products.

Data caps. Ugh. I've been reading about how the big cable companies are just now starting to roll out caps. People are complaining about mid tier packages ($50-$70/mo, 50mps) with 1 TB caps. I would kill for a cap like that, instead of the ridiculous 500 gig cap. They do it because they can and it almost forces cord cutters to go back to their TV service.

DSL through Frontier in Sylvania is an unusable joke.

I really despise Buckeye and their monopoly.

DISH, AT&T or DirecTV will always be "cheaper" if you are a new customer. You sign a contract, get a discounted rate for a pre-determined period of time then your rates will go up significantly.

We had the Buckeye Media Gateway system for a while and switched to their TiVo powered system last fall. With both systems, you can pause what you are watching in one room and continue on with it in another. The TiVo interface is great - much better than the interface on their Media Gateway system was.

For me, Buckeye's customer service is still second to none. And, with AT&T, I believe your Internet connection will be DSL which has no appeal to me.

If you're going the ATT route, sign up via ATT installs for $50, NO modem/router fee, NO data caps. One year term.

Switching for TV, Internet, or Both?

Buckeye will be faster for internet, however do you truly need ultra high speed? If you're not going to be downloading whole films or playing network intense games, you probably don't. We have 24gb speeds and my wife fiddles online, my son watches Youtube and plays games, and I play games and watch Netflix, all simultaneously and rarely run into issues.

For TV, ATT is getting rid of UVerse but is partnered with DirecTV. What's more, DTV is now offering an entirely internet based streaming television package which isn't a terrible deal if you don't want to cut the cord. That means no dish on your roof.

If you only want internet, go through and get ATT through them. It will have no data caps and from what I hear their service is good.

How can Buckeye put you under a contract and be allowed to raised the rates during it and then charge you to get out of it? I guess when you have a dying newspaper to support and they don't have to worry about local paper reporting this type of activity you can do what you want.

AT&T is DSL which I hate.

Direct has whole house dvd where you can pause it one room and continue in another as well. The main thing that is keeping me from switching back to Buckeye is their additional outlet boxes. The only wired box you need with direct is the main box that I use in my living room. I have a couple other TV's and just use one of the wireless boxes between the other two. The one is a really small TV and it's nice being able to watch that in the kitchen while cooking or cleaning up or eating without having to have cable wires and I can move the tv and small wifi box to the room where my elliptical is and watch it there when using that and have access to my DVR through it as well.

I've heard that Direct is talking about eliminating the dish and having it set up so you access the programing via wifi which I would hate. If your internet is down it means no watching TV either which would make life pretty boring if you were at home and that happened with entertainment options. The other thing is a lot of wifi companies are putting data caps on but maybe that is why direct will make the change, since they are owned by AT&T it would be a good way to force their customer to use AT&T for the internet instead of a competitor.

I am hoping the youtube tv service does well and makes it to the Toledo market and I will probably make cut the cord if that happens

I'm having issues with Buckeye's cap. I had no problems with it in the beginning, then they said I was exceeding the cap, and charging me. They sent me notices about paying $20 more per month to increase the cap, which I have declined. When I went on a two week vacation, they still said I exceeded the cap, which is bs. Makes me wonder if they are playing games.

I am definitely doing enough uploading and downloading to justify the cap I am hitting pretty much each month... though usually towards the end of the billing cycle.

Does anyone here do the unlimited data plan with Buckeye? I have zero complaints outside of the data cap and saw a billboard recently marketing unlimited data for $50 a month which is less than I am paying currently....

Thinking about the unlimited. I'm sure you have to be a new customer to get $50/mo. I'll probably do it, but the thought of calling Buckeye to pledge them more money makes me queasy and nauseous.

Could a neighbor be stealing your signal?

I work from home and use a lot of data. The only time I got one of those messages was when my kids were on a school break & watching a lot of Netflix. That on top of my work stuff almost put us over.

We have buckeye 50MB and are pleased with it. When I was shopping around for cheaper internet, I contacted Toast.NET and was told that I would have to wait 6 months after I cancelled Buckeye for service. Maybe they have a non-compete or something to that effect?....I pay $56 for internet, plus $10 a month for extra 100GB so we don't go over the data cap.

50MB with unlimited data is going for $86/month

And we also have our own modem. We chose one from the approved list and all I had to do was call them up to activate it.

I love ATT and have never had a problem with them. When I had Buckeye, the cable or phone was always going out with any storm we had. Then it would take Buckeye hours to get the problems fixed. Not so with ATT. It has never gone out on me. Just my opinion.
