Toledo Talk

I didn't think it was wrong - Larry Sykes at it again

https://www.toledoblade.com/local/2018/02/01/Toledo-councilman-s-column-on-credit-lifted-from-blogger.html

Larry Sykes decided to post a column in the Sojourner Truth. The best line of the column..."I don't think it was stealing. I just repeated what he said,”.

Uh, Larry, if you lift a column and don't give credit to the original author, that is plagiarism.

Why to voters continue to vote for these people?

"'It happens a lot, but it's wrong,” Ms. Johnson said. “Usually it's companies overseas, not legitimate people like this guy.'"

Ms. Johnson has never been to Toledo.

I'm not surprised. Sykes never was any damn' good; he was always pulling crap like this.

Why does he get elected? Who do you suppose votes for him?

I have to assume he's very charming in his personal interactions, at least sometimes. My father, who is extremely critical of politicians and of people in general, has worked with him and been his friend for years. Whenever I interrupt one of his "They're all corrupt!" rants with a, "What about your buddy Sykes?" he just smiles. I tell him I wish he reacted like that to my teenage indiscretions and I get the same smile again.

The larger difficulty is that he remains in local government and what future difficulties and disturbances will he bring about. He was one of the key architects in the lead paint ordinance which was ill conceived, poorly designed, costly to the property owner with a painfully resultant impact on tenants as those who can least afford to be governmentally bullied. All done under the auspices of protecting the children as opposed to the true design of generating municipal revenue. Mindful that he was chair of council's finance committee throughout the $9m mystery money fiasco. We now require surveillance oversight for the county tres. as well as a punch drunk who doesn't know what theft means.

Had a little free time at the office today. I compared the source vs. the article in the Sojourner's Truth that Mr. Sykes submitted under his own name.

https://clubthrifty.com/credit-score-why-i-dont-care/

http://www.thetruthtoledo.com/pdf/2018/012418pdf.pdf
The Article starts on Page 7.

While a few words are occasionally changed and Mr. Sykes renamed the piece and added a 6 new paragraphs at the end, it seems to me that most of the text was simply copied and pasted.

No wonder Ms. Johnson thought it was [expletive].

he's an A-1 clown. Guys like him are what hold Toledo back.

At least city council had the balls and brains not to elect him president.

I also don't understand how he continues to get reelected but I know him and PH2 had the support of the black voters and larger black churches.

But nothing surprises me with the Lucas County voters these days after seeing Hickey get elected.

I got distracted by the article on page 3 of the Sojournor's Truth about Lindsay Webb by Lafe Toliver. Did that really happen? I'm stunned if that is real.

I think it was a sad attempt at satire.
