Cobo Center Parking

I've got a 4 day event at Cobo Center next month. Hotel costs are ridiculous and I have no problem driving each day. I am not all familiar with the area.

Any advice on where to park? I'm healthy and can walk, but close is always good.

Check the casinos that have acess to the people mover. Have parked at Greektown for free, taken the people mover for a buck each way. Can depend on the event greektown has stopped doing free parking when there is a major event thought.

I always park at Greektown which is free unless there’s a big event going on. From the we walk to where we need to be or take the people mover.

Not sure on how much you’re looking to spend on a hotel but we get good deals though Priceline’s express deals. You just have to pay attention that the hotel is downtown and the user ratings

We used to park at Greektown and take the people mover over to Cobo Hall for the car show but about five years ago they stopped providing free parking during the auto show in the self park lot.

Even if self parking isn't free you should be able to still valet park and the only thing you are out is the tip to valet and you may have to wait a little bit for your car.

If you don't mind walking parking at MGM is always free and we have parked there and walked to the auto show. Just make sure it's still day light out, I wouldn't want to make that walk along after dark but during the day it's safe. Or you could always park at MGM and walk over and Uber/Taxi it back and will still probably be a lot cheaper than parking at Cobo.

The lot at 3rd and Lafayette was always $5 for Red Wings games. It's lighted and fenced. Cobo should be easily walkable through the community college.

People Mover is one of Detroit's most underused resources. This year I stayed at Greektown for the Autoshow workweek and rode the PM every day, sometimes multiple times. Didn't even take a coat most days.
On the other hand, if you get there early you can park on the roof or at the Fort Washington garage, which is 3 minutes away. Neither are free though.

I've never had issues on the PM but have heard it referred to as the People Mugger.

I remember when Greektown first opened they never charged for parking during the auto show and had a promo one year where their casino cardholders a free people mover token that weekend to go to the car show.

When parking was free during the car show at Greektown we would always spend some time gambling and eat at Pappy's across the street. Now that it isn't free we don't go unless the weather is nice enough to walk and then we park at MGM and gamble there after and drive to Windsor after to eat.
