Civil Rights?
50 years ago this probably would have been a riot in Mississippi.
I was thinking that Jim Lehrer was almost like a marriage counselor trying to facilitate conversation between them.
Tie. McCain won as they say "won on points" but a lot of times, he did this was by talking out of turn over Obama, preventing him from getting a word in. As a result, he came off a little rude. Obama demonstrated a breadth of knowledge on foreign affairs and managed to hold his own. Apparently, those late night cram sessions worked.

Obama did'nt want to look like an "angry black man" and scare voters off. Maybe in the next two rounds he'll be less gentlemanly and more forceful. I agree with thetoledowire. McCain did just look unnecessarily angry and downright combative. With that attitude his claim about his ability "reach across the aisle and work in a bipartisan manner" seems just rhetoric.
"his ability "reach across the aisle and work in a bipartisan manner" seems just rhetoric."
Until you look at voting records and such, of course...
Yea, McCain is an aisle crossing maverick alright.
He likes to send people to get toasted in Iraq and then doesn't do shit upon their return. Look who got the GIBill08 passed. OBAMA! With the help of Webb. McCain was too busy counting houses. But I guess to you all that is another one of those annoying social programs.
You people really cannot be this clueless can you? I don't think you are. Therefore, you must be racist.
Either way - your bad.

WHAT?? Are you saying if you don;t vote for O, you're RACIST?? Are you ACTUALLY saying it?
I am saying that this Pub team is the worse ever and if you vote for them you are either really dumb or racist.
How the fuck could you EVER rely on Palin? HOW?!?!?!?!?
Geez.. Lower your typing voice, Ryan. You're loosing me here for Pete's sake and I'm practically in the choir.
However, on Palin, yeah, McCain gets sick, we're doomed.

The most frustrating thing about any political debate is that both say the other one is at fault, lying, etc. What would be really helpful is to have a panel of unbiased fact finders. Ask the candidates the question, then verify their answers with facts from the panel.
All night long, one says one thing and the other says the other. Also, they frequently avoid the question and direct their answers to what they want to say anyway and avoid the question.
Gosh, if you make your decision just on the debate, you'd be really lost so far.
Ryan. Try to calm down and not be such a douche bag. There is another answer. Perhaps I don't think EITHER ONE OF THEM is worth voting for?
You need to seriously consider that it's not one or the other - there are MANY MANY people out here who dont favor either one of them, and if you want to convince people to come to your side of the debate, it'll never happen by doing nothing but denigrating the other side - all that says is "Ive got nothing positive to say about MY side of the issue, so I cant use that, so all i CAN do is be negative about the opposition."
If you want a sure fire way to lose a debate, that's it.
Exactly Ryan. Bob Barr for President.

Although I wont be voting for either I did watch it, mostly because I wanted to see If all the Republicans claims about Obama not being able to speak without a teleprompter had any merit. I think Obama got the better of him almost solely based on the fact that McCain seemed rude and VERY condescending.
My favorite part was when Obama pointed out that one of McCain's advisors, Kissinger (which is scary enough for me) had recently stated direct talks w/ countries like Iran were a good idea even though McCain has more of a "we dont negotiate with terrorists" type of policy. So then of couse John twisted Obama's words saying something like "hes been my friend for 35 years and he would never suggest direct Pres to Pres talks"...which Obama never directly said.
To be fair though I guess even Obama slightly altered his view on these types of talks to include preconditions when he previously had left that part out.
is there ever going to be a non dem or rep candidate that really has a chance to win?

Not till people wizen up and listen to what's said BEFORE they worry whether the guy has an R or a D behind their name.
Not till people start looking at a person's track record of accomplishments before they look at the other guy's faults.
Not till it stops being a matter of who donates more money to who.
In reply to hockeyfan, IMHO there is an extremely good chance, but as billy said, people need to get off the partisan crap and realize the great majority of both parties are corrupt, they were "hi-jacked" long ago, as they say 2 sides of the same coin.
Lately though, the thought has crossed my mind that perhaps a President of OUR choice is not possible unless we the people stand up and take action, not talk, walk. I did not have the pleasure to experience the ideals and true leadership of the late JFK, as that was far before my time. However, I know what he wanted to do and what he spoke of very shortly before his assassination, and no I don't think Lee Harvey did it if you catch my drift. I now see other assassinations aimed at men who go against the system, they are of the media variety, my prime example is Ron Paul, he has some of the exact same objectives as JFK and he has been blacked out of the headlines for the most part, essentially assassinated.
I will end my rant before I go too off topic.
Peace
There are so many people making so much money and benefiting from the way things are done now, that to change it would require making many, many enemies.
