More Arrogance and Elitism

Toledo's major gets caught breaking the law

WTVG August 4, 2007 - More controversy surrounding Toledo's mayor as 13 ABC cameras' bust him for parking in a handicapped spot.

Toledo's mayor gets a ticket for parking in a handicap spot. It happened after 7:00 last night at the Westgate Building.
The mayor says he did it to keep his dog from suffering in the heat. He was at the building for a 45 minute massage therapy appointment treating an injury to his achilles tendon.

Here was his explanation. "There were no other people parked here. There were five other spaces. I have a semi-torn achilles tendon, my dog is overheated. That's why we parked in the shade."

There were plenty of parking spots nearby. In fact every other handicapped spot was open but most regular spots were in the sun. The mayor's dog Scout stayed in the car with the rear windows open. Carty says he intends to pay the ticket._

(I'll use boldface and italics once Ive figured out the new tools)

As both someone with knee problems and dogs, I cannot imagine leaving my dog in the car for 45 minutes yesterday. So he has a sore ankle??? HE can take care of himself - imprisoned, his dog could not. He ONLY got a ticket for illegal parking??

His elitist thinking "there were 5 other spaces"... Bullshit!! Can he speed 100mph down a highway because there are two other lanes??

I could go off here, but I know Carty does have health problems. Maybe it is time for him to get a handicapped plate.

To bold, put an asterisk at both ends of the text to bold. For italics, use the underscore.

If you want to quote a large area from another source, use the q. and the q.. commands.

q.
the text from another source
q..

But start the q. and q.. commands at the very beginning of a new line. If you are only quoting two paragraphs of text, for some reason, you have to add a blank line before the closing q.. command to preserve the blank line between the two paragraphs you're quoting. If you're quoting only one paragraph or more than two paragraphs, the blank line before the closing q.. is not needed.

Play around with the formatting by editing the sandbox article.

Do as I say, not as I do! A HA!!! But this time you got caught, Carty! Now perhaps we need to follow up to see if he really does pay the fine, or will he try to use his "influence" again. And could he not also have been cited for animal endangerment as well? If so, why wasn't he?

As for Carty getting a handicapped "tag", Does this really justify one? There are may people in this country that display handicapped "tags" of one kind or another that seem to be in excellent health. There are also a lot of people that park in handicapped parking that fail to display any indication that they are handicapped.

Did Carty receive this injury while participating in a physical fitness program during working hours, and if so, has a workman's comp claim been filed? And, who is paying for this massage therapy? And who will pay for the handicapped "tag" for Carty, if he elects to get one?
Just wondering.

I don't care who is it is..If you don't have a handicapped plate or permit , then you have no reason for parking in a handicap spot. <b> No matter what! </b> In the 10 or 15 minutes (or in this case 45) that you are parked there illegally, Someone could be trying to use that spot that truly needs it. Don't give me that BS that I'm going in for "Just a sec" or "I'm waiting for someone" That is bullcrap. That sec, Someone like my wife could be trying to park there. And it's not like we need the space for the "short walk" My wife is in a wheelchair and we have a van so we need the extra space to allow the ramp to come out. And if someone parks in the lined spaces next to the handicap space then.."clunk" Look at the nice statch and dent in your car that the ramp just put in. It's not our fault that you can't see the lines on the road, or read the fricking sticker on the side of the van that says "Wheelchair, extra room needed"

As part of the story, Channel 13 showed a clip of Carty ripping on Bob Reinbolt for parking illegally, yet he thinks he did the right thing by parking in a handicapped spot? His alibis for doing so gave me that impression. He had no right doing it, in spite of his whining. I would have gotten the same ticket for his reasons, too. He damn better pay the ticket. If not, he should resign.

If you know that you have a 45 minute massage therapy appointment, why do you even have your dog with you in the first place? 45 minutes is an awful long time to leave a dog in a car on a hot day.

I'm glad he got caught too. And that the person who cited him had guts enough to hold him to it.

However, it is rather irritating to see 10 handycap spots not being used. There are too many in some places. Not an excuse to park in them though.

As long as he was ticketed and he pays it, I don't care. There are many more important things to worry about.

There are too many in some places.

State law has a formula: Xnumber of parking places in a lot means you have Ynumber of handcap slots.

Thats why when you see a giant store with a huge lot, there are a large number of blue spaces

Apparently, Carty left that dog in a parked vehicle again while attending a public event this morning (Aug 6). I wouldn't say Monday morning was "hot" but the humidity is a bit high right now. If this latest dog incident is true, I just don't understand why he's dragging this dog around everywhere. Doesn't Carty have a taxpayer-funded flunkie to take care of this dog?

From an Aug 7, 2007 WTVG story, Carty is quoted as saying:

"We love that dog dearly. If he dies from anything, it's going to be from over-affection."

So over-affection includes abandoning the dog in a vehicle for 30 to 60 minutes. Twice in less than three days Carty does this. It's hard for me to believe that these are the only two times that Carty has done this since acquiring Scout.

Also from the 13 ABC story:

Finkbeiner says he does not usually drive around with Scout and that he thinks these attacks are politically motivated.

Politically motivated, that's the standard fall back for Carty. He blames others for his own stupid actions. Poor Carty. He feels he's being wrongly targeted.

Yet, a couple weeks ago, Carty personally attacked Wood County by claiming Wood County stole OI, but according to the WTOL story:

Lane Williamson, chairman of the board for the Wood County Economic Development Commission, told us O-I approached Wood County, not the other way around.

Carty has no interest in facts. Carty creates his own reality as he goes. He has no problem directing false claims at others, but he dislikes it when others attack him with the truth.

Since Carty loves his dog so much, he should get Scout a Vick Dog Chew Toy so the dog has something to do the next time its left alone in a vehicle.
