World of Warcraft

For the past year I've read about gaming addiction. Guess I never understood the impact till today the entire server was down. I'm not talking about individual realms being down, but ALL.

This was a holiday, day, several of us had it off. We could finally catch up on our leasurly gaming.

Anyway rant over... anyone else here play WoW?
Curious if/who in Toledo plays, perhaps we can quest some time.

I never touched WoW, simply because I don't have the time for another addiction. Heck, I get jittery when Tumblr goes down.

Though I am glad to hear somebody else knows how to fire up a telnet client and start MUDding. Mirkwood for life!

Hello,

This isn't an advertisement ... I was tempted to sign up to talk about the election and 8 o'clock coffee, as both were/are a part of my life.

I used to play MUDs, too! I was particularly addicted to one called Arctic.

Anyway, if anyone is looking for an online, multiplayer game that they can play casually, I recommend www.travian.com

It doesn't require that you pay money or that you be online for longer than a few minutes, several times a day. I guess it's kind of difficult to explain.

Basically, you choose one of three tribes, and you register a village on a particular server. From there, and most of you gamers will be familiar with this, you build up resources, troops, and can form alliances with other players, or simply play on your own. You can attack other villages for resources, etc., and even totally destroy other people.

It's not very graphical, so if you play MUDs, you'll be fine with this. I doubt you WoW players will be impressed.

What's nice about it (and also sometimes frustrating) is how long it takes to do things. Upgrading a particular resource can take 7 hours. That doesn't mean you are online for 7 hours watching the hours tick away, that is simply how long the action takes once you decide to do it -- in real time.

So, you check your village in the morning, you check it at night, and you don't lose any of your life in between. Also, I've met some really cool people from all over the world.

Wow. This is a dorky first post.

I'm more of or less of the opinion that WoW is a disease. Most people manage to responsibly balance it with the real world but a disturbing number of people actually make it their real world. My best friend stopped talking to pretty much everyone he knows and when offered to do an actual activity we get "Can't, raiding tonight" about 90% of the time.

It's one of those things where if you feel like your actual life isn't working out, you can always drop $13-15 (depending on your payment plan) a month to feel important (with a massive time investment)

I played the game for a while but found it ultimately boring. I can see why people like it, but because of the way MMO's are currently designed (very grind oriented) and the fact that I don't derive my self-worth from how powerful my fictional character is, I gave it up.
