Recycling Styrofoam ?

Is there a place in Toledo that recycles styrofoam? I usually dump my cans, plastics, and newspapers at the Krogers on Monroe and Secor - but they do not take styrofoam. Are there other recycling places? Would the city take it?

thanks

The Village of Holland won't. There is currently no recycling market for it. They can't even "pay" a recycler to take it.

I'm not sure of any places in the area. Styrofoam is a terrible product and you should use as little of it as possible.

Try searching styrofoam cup recycling. I found a site at www.greenlivingtips.com that has some suggestions on how to reuse styrofoam. It makes a great packing material and can be used in planters to retain water around plant roots.

If there is a triangle with a number in it then its recyclable. Problem is there is no call for recycled foam at this time. It is much cheaper to make more than to find a way to use the old.

Maybe it can be used for arts and craft projects. Contact schools, clubs or post on CL or Freecycle as another option.

I saved styrofoam through the years, thinking that I could carve it. Found out that the little "beads" that make it up are almost impossible to carve. The product breaks at any bead. Ended up putting it all in plastic bags for the landfill. Maybe that is why so many products are being packed in cardboard again.

thanks for the suggestions everyone...

ive decided to just reuse the material since i have so much of it (entire dinner table full). I have a lot of auctions on ebay going on right now, so i will use this stuff as packaging - rather then old newspapers.
