WNWO - NBC 24

Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of news people are leaving NBC 24 / WNWO?

Jim Blue - contract non-renewed and replaced by Dave Custer. Not a surprise really except that he is still in town.

Shenikwa Stratford - leaving to return to her home state of Georgia or TX with her husband to be a stay at home mom.

Rob Packard - leaving to pursue other dreams. (I like him. I've met him a few times and he couldn't be more nice and genuine.)

Kylie Conway - vanished from the morning news.

I get that WNWO is kind of the B level news operation in town, but there is something I like about them.

Jim Blue was just on the other night doing an assignment report. About the only something I like about them is that they're on at 7pm.

Jim Blue is different in person. I've seen him at Wildwood park and have said "hi" with a smile. He doesn't respond, looks angry, and frankly seems rude. Then again, maybe it's because he works at 24.

24 has seemed to put the entire show on that girl with the barely open eyes. Is she on drugs or falling asleep?

Maybe he's just 'Blue'...

Nyuck nyuck.... XD

What's nice about Ch 24 is that it doesn't keep me awake while my wife is watching because they apparently use only one 60 watt bulb to light their entire studio.

I miss Kylie Conway. She was cute and perky. Always a good way to start the morning.

You've said that twice in threads now-WHO are you talking about??

it's Arielle Berlin. She's the one that looks like she's half asleep.

And while we are talking tv, do they realize that when they have the little station reminder in the corner, then a scrolling headline across the bottom and add a weather warning, that all these things sometimes overlap and you can't read anything they are trying to put on screen?

I talked to an employee at Buckeye Cable during the contract dispute with Channel 24. Evidently, buckeye was not the least bit threatened by NBC24's demands to be paid to carry their signal. Channel 24's news ratings were in the tank and they could arrange all the other programming through Detroit stations, so there was no benefit for them to pay the tv station. He said they were hemorrhaging money and were at the point of having to close. Evidently, they haven't improved their financial situation and have been forced to cut employees significantly.

GAYLORD!! Them's fightin' words! You're talkin' about the lady ah love! Sing it, little lady!!(and if you're old enough to remember that old Soupy Sales routine, you are OLD)
I'm just a sucker for big homkers, I guess. She's no Melissa Voetsch or Diane Larson, but she'll do. By the way-anybody caught the new young lady @ channel 11 in the very early morning? Can't think of her name, either. Lovely AND professional, has a very lucrative and long career ahead of her. Won't last long in Toledo, though.

she has quite the beak, that is for sure.

Kylie Conway will be missed. Easy on the eyes. Please never take away my Sashem. I need my Sashem.

Kylie will be missed by this man-child too. I can honestly see Sashem going to the "big-time" though. So how many news babes are there left in town?

The ever-perky Chrys Peterson, Diane (bad telethon gowns) Larson, Laura (sometimes hot, sometimes not) Emerson, and of course, David Custer.

There is Christina Williams over at 13abc. She is a cute "babe"

What's the thoughts on Lauren Lowrey? She's legit enough for my eyes. There's something about her that oozes ultimate sexiness.

Back to NBC 24. Why are their sets so dark? and why are they on at such odd times? I guess they figured if you can't beat 'em then change time slots.

I can't stand to watch their news at all. The sports people suck bad. The whole group should just get out of broadcasting. Jim Tichy is old as dirt. It's like watching my gandpa talk about sports. I expect him to use terms like wipper snapper and sport or kido.

I just checked their web site and they are down to 9 people on the air.

I have to say though, the 24-2 digital channel is really cool. Me and the kids watch to old shows like A-Team, Knight Rider, Buck Rodgers and Battlestar Galactica. They laugh so hard at the bad graphics and horrible dialog, but we have a great time.

oh yeh, my vote is for Colleen Wells.

And well I'm here, I hate the BIG RED BOX!! I can't ever find what they say should be there. It sucks!! They should change the damn site to thebigredbox.com and just put everything in one spot so you can spend your own time hunting around to find something. I hope they don't pay much for the guy who does that part of the web site.

Agreed. I watch the Rockford Files and Dragnet. I can't believe the graphics we thought were really cool are so elementary by todays standards. Still it fun all the same, I like the retro commercials as well.

Lowrey is the one I was speaking of early in the morning. She has beauty plus charisma and will make a fortune throughout her life in the cbusiness-I'm certain of that. This town is just a stepping stone for her, though.

Colleen Wells did the live report on the TSHL last year. She was very attractive, fun, witty, and even tried to play some hockey with us.
I haven't seen her in awhile.

She's on the Weekend versions of "Your Morning"-originally was called "Saturday AM" with Melissa and Dave Carlson for years, then started on Sunday too, now on seven days a week with various people. Saturday has the bonus of Dave Carlson out on location (he no longer does weather, just covers festivals, antique shows, and such). Personally, I think she looks like a deer in the headlights, but to each his own. She wore a skirt ONCE that I know of since she started , and looked as if it caused her great pain to do so.

The chick on 24 in the a.m. is Jennifer Taylor. She DOES need to wake up a bit more -- at least speak up, for god's sake. I can barely hear her, I turn it up, and then get blasted out of the room when I switch channels. Which is probably why I haven't had 24 on much, lately. I liked Kylie, too, even if her name was Kylie.

I only started watching 24 for their latest promo, but wow they are less than "B level". Their promo for a cash giveaway succeeded in getting me to watch during May sweeps, but they've also succeeded in convincing me they are pretty amateur at best. Anybody else?

they screwed up my home ad on Sell It at 7 and never fixed it, it's crap. very unprofessional and stupid, the lot of them.

Mrs Hoops worked there for many years and numerous ownership changes. The good ones come and go, more of a stepping stone in this market. Good memories from our numerous parties and softball games. Back in the day all of the stations partied together after the 11 pm weekend news. I always found it humorous when we hosted the parties and neighbors were in awe of the so-called celebrities and either broke their necks to get a peek or make an excuse to stop over.

Wow...can't believe someone dug up this thread...

Ch. 24 has been a cheap, fourth-rate TV station for as long as I can remember (as either an ABC or NBC affiliate). Nothing has changed except they have gotten cheaper.

What is unfortunate is the local talent they have let slip through their fingers over the years--Diane Larson, Dave Carlson, & others. Tichy stayed out of loyalty and made a good career, but people get there, realize it is hell, and leave as soon as the contract is up.

Nana--salespeople in media organizations are under so much pressure to deliver BIG money, since corporate is bankrupt, that unless your account is worth 10 grand or more to them (a "key" account) they won't give a damn whether you are pissed off or not.

I worked too long in this industry not to know how bothersome "small time" clients are to big, important media salespeople. Sorry, it's true.

I'm not a client, my real estate agent is. not sure how much she pays them, or IF she pays them, no idea what the deal is, all I know is, our ad doesn't look like everyone else's and she blamed them. They had her doing a call-in show about foreclosures and they short-sheeted our spot. Not even sure why I'm upset, don't even know if SIA7 has been successful for her in past, but it was right when we put our house on the market and we had high-hopes. Now I just feel stupid.
