im looking to fence in our yard this spring. ive had a few quotes made over the past couple of years... all a bit higher than im looking to spend. just curious if you've had any luck with local fencing companies?
Local fence companies?

Have you considered doing it yourself? I've put both chain link and privacy fence in and it's come out really well.
What type of fence and about how big an area?
Four years ago we needed to fence in our back yard for Fido. ABout 60% wooden privacy and 40 Chain link. I got 5-6 quotes and A2Z Fence came in with the powest price by FAR. Almost 50 less then the next higher quote. I was actually leery of going with them because they were so low (compared to the others)but I took a chance and they did a great job. Someone told me they may have been so much less because they were a newer company and needed to get established. They were on Reynolds Rd. then. I know they moved to somewhere on Angola, East of Holland Sylvania. Whether they are still there or not I have no idea. The owners last name, who did the measuring and the quote was Winegar, I forget his first name. Good Luck.

hockeyfan is dead on, the labor is what really costs.

hockey & angry
i am considering doing it myself
its just.. i have a GIANT yard, and it's almost all "frontage" (i own two empty lots, one on the corner) so the work needs to be done well.
but good point.. i will certainly be looking into the costs of doing it myself along side getting quotes from local installers.
SORRY...
powest should be Lowest!

I have done a couple, wood and vinyl. It really is not that difficult, the lining up is the biggest worry. You will save yourself a small fortune doing it yourself.
Back when I was a teen, I remember a neighborhood friend's family owned a fencing company called McKnown(spelling could be wrong) Does anyone recall them?

Recall McKown quite well from the neighborhood where I grew up. The family was in the news a few decades back.... someone in the family was murdered while at the fence company office? Something like that. Used to know part of the family since they were clients of my business. My knowledge of the company is far too outdated to be of any benefit, so I will not comment.
I WILL comment on Toledo Fence. They are not the cheapest in town, but did a really nice job on a custom fence and gate at my business AND they did find the least expensive way to accomplish my goal (security.) When I showed them a lower estimate from another company they reduced their price by tweaking the design. I would use them again in a heartbeat (I don't have the time or the people-power to do my own installation, which would certainly be my preference since I am a big fan of DIY.)
We used Toledo Fence a few years ago and they did a great job. The crew was professional and cleaned up the yard when they were done. The fence itself looked great and has held up well.
Good luck.
This is one of those projects you'd be stunned to find you can do on your own. I spent two years getting estimates, and was shocked by how much it costs to install a privacy fence. I went with A2Z because they had the lowest estimate, but after they installed a few of the panels, two fell during a hard rain, and one was nailed to my tree. I decided then to do it myself. A friend of mine helped me install about eight panels. I saved a huge amount of money. It took about two weeks to do. I am not athletic by any means. I wasn't sure I could do it, but I did - two females successfully installing a privacy fence! I would do it again. In fact, the privacy fence on the side of my yard is next, and that will require about 12 panels. I'm ready.
I'd be interested in taking a look and discussing a price with you about doing the job.

my vote is do it yourself its really cake...all you need is materials, beer, pies and about 5 peeps to knock that thing in a weekend. Really the hardest thing to do is squaring it up and laying the posts.
If you do it yourself don't forget to check if you need a permit to put it up. I know when we did our fence we had to get a permit from the city.

The cool thing about TOledo Fence is that they fab all thier fences and they usually will be other quotes. I would highly recomend them also.
Sorry in a hurry, i meant "they will usually beat other quotes." 8-)
toledo fence is great, but they were the highest of the quotes we got a couple years ago. highest by FAR actually.
transcom, i just may invite you over for beers and pie this spring! ;)
