Apr 20, 2009 Glass City Jungle posting that references an Apr 20, 2009 Toledo Blade story :
Toledo mayoral candidate Ben Konop suggested Sunday the city use its garbage collectors as crime fighters as he outlined a three-part plan for keeping the streets safe if 150 police officers are laid off.
"Garbage men obviously have the whole city covered," Mr. Konop, a Democrat, said at a news conference. Their eyes and ears would help compensate for a reduced number of patrol officers, he said. "It costs very little if anything for the taxpayers, but that gives the citizens a couple extra hundred eyes on the street each day."
The reasons continue to pile up for leaving Toledo.
Boy, the 25-year-old temporary 3/4 percent payroll tax that was renewed in March 2008 is working out well. The original intent of that tax was to support police and fire.
