Summit Street sighting : unmarked police car

Hello all,
Two days ago someone was pulled over by a police officer
in a dark blue somewhat beat up medium sized "sedan".
Speed limit, I believe, is 35, which is hard for me
to remember because it is two lanes both ways.
I'm the first to admit I don't know cars, but it the unmarked
police car seemed to be a Ford from perhaps the late 70's or early 80's...but I could be way off.

Anyways, this happened two days ago, around 5:30 pm,
on Summit, just north of Galena.
Maybe it wasn't speeding related, and this is a snap judgement..

Along this line..
Wondering if they are going to step up patrolling
for drivers who speed on Lehman? To be honest, I often
forget the limit is only 30 on Lehman.

Thought I'd pass this along, although many of you are
aware of this I believe.

Wishing you all a safe weekend!
Point Place 55

(And for all you past viewers of "Hill Street Blues", hey, let's
be careful out there!

And the speed limit on Ottawa River Rd is only 30 mph...In all my years of driving out here, I thought it was 35...took my niece who was learning to drive to point out my error.

But I haven't seen any unmarked cars in Point Place...

Thats kinda scary - unmarked car pulling you over. I haven't seen any either.
And - none of the usual speeding on my street today... blocked by a couple of trees. ;0) We weren't home at the time - must have been quite a storm here.

Unmarked cars have become a normal way of life down here. Anything from your typical patrol car to SUVs, sports cars, and trucks. If you are ever worried about it, just call 911 and they can verify it.

I have seen two incidents within the last month of vehicles being pulled over by unmarked vehicles on S.Detroit Ave. here in South Toledo. One was black Chevy Caprice normally driven by VICE and the other was a SUV (Durango I think).

These vehicles are not to hard to identify in my neighborhood as they are always parked at the Speedway on the corner of Arlington at S.Detroit while the officers spend countless hours there throughout the week filling their coffee cups and such. But I degress...

The TPD must be supplementing their aging, delapidated, fleet with anything they can get their hands on (like confiscated vehicles) because they cannot afford new cruisers and no one is willing to spend thousands of dollars to advertise on the side of a rust bucket.

I am guessing the average speed on Summit between the Point and Dowtown is about 50mph. Always amazed cops don't sit out there.

IT WAS MY understanding that by an act of the state legislature "UNMARKED POLICE CARS"ARE NOT USED IN OHIO" ITS ILLEGAL" so if you see it you should instantly call the police or sheriffs dept, or highway patrol, IF my memory it was made illegal yrs ago because some very unsavory persons were impersonating the police in order to rape or rob people, "AND NEVER, NEVER PULL OVER FOR A UNMARKED CAR IN A "UNLIT AREA"

"ANYONE CAN BUY A USED POLICE CAR"!! SO BE SURE THEY HAVE A LEGITIMATE IDENTIFICATION, BADGE # ETC...

blacja you are mistaken, it is not illegal for the police to use an unmarked vehicle. I do believe that there are certain restrictions in their use for traffic enforcement (hence all the semi-marked vehicles), but that doesn't apply to the rest of their use. Most detectives and SED guys drive unmarked cars.

Most likely this had nothing to do with speed. Perhaps they ran the plate and the owner had warrants or perhaps it was someone they were following or set up on and were ready to make an arrest. Who knows.
