Douglas Rd - closed at I475...

Ive been told that you can still use the on/off ramps, but that the bridge is closed -ie, if you come from the south you can get ON to 475, and you can get OFF 475 and turn right and drive north, but you just cant cross the bridge...

Anybody know if that's true or not?

yes

As of today, May 1, Douglas Rd. bridge over I-475 is closed as workers beginning the process of replacing the bridge.

From the O-DOT web site:

The Douglas Road, Central Avenue and Auburn Avenue bridges will be replaced to prepare for the widening of I-475/75. Construction on the Douglas Road bridge is scheduled to begin in May and continue through November 2009.

During the closure of the Douglas Road bridge, ramps will remain open and there will be overnight short-term closures on I-475. Intermittent closures on Langenderfer Drive and Groveland Road may be possible through May 2009. Click on www.buckeyetraffic.org for updates.

The detour for through traffic on Douglas Road will be: Monroe Street; Secor Road; Sylania Avenue.

Any truth to the rumor that they're adding another on and off ramp so that folks will have access to and from 475 both eastbound AND westbound?

Oh, and thanks for the info

Has anyone else noticed the poor condition of many of the concrete support pillars on some of the overpasses along that section of I-475?

Quite a few of them have the concrete worn/chipped away so that you can see the re-bar, that can't be good.

Billy: I think that rumor started because they added a new span next to the old one. It is a pedestrian walkway, not a new lane for vehicle traffic - at least that is what it appears to be.

The new span is pretty narrow. Only good for people, motorcycles and shopping carts.

The new span is for Utility lines only. There will be no pedestrian or vehicle traffic.

yeah, they call it a utility bridge, but they have installed fencing posts on top, indicating that it may be used for pedestrian traffic.

If they are widening the lanes, wouldn't they have to do something with the Upton/Jackman exits as well?

I certainly hope they close that darn Berdan Ave exit. That is where all the problems come from, people scissoring back and forth to switch lanes...

By the way, the bridge over Swan Creek on Eastgate is closed, too.

Ok, I'll show my ignorance: What is a utility bridge?

The utility bridge is designed to carry AT&T cables over the x-way. Everyone needs their Phones and Computer access!
