License Plate Sanctions

Does anyone know if the state of Ohio can deny you license plates, or renewals for non traffic reasons, other than delinquent child support issues?

I believe if you owe any court fees or other moneys to the City of Toledo.

If you try to buy them for your house instead of paying property taxes they can deny them

If you detail the specific issue, we should be able to give you an answer.

Yes. Among other reasons, if you're suspended, if you have a warrant out for your arrest for anything (from speeding ticket to axe murder), if you have too many parking tickets (although that one seems to be hit or miss for some reason), and a few other things that slip my mind.

On a side note. Do you need insurance to obtain a Drivers License? What if you do not own a car therefore you have nothing to insure?

Kat, you need to sign a paper that you have insurance on the license and the car. At the moment they do not require you to show proof.

If you have a warrant for your arrest or owe a fine the state puts a warrant block against you being able to obtain plates, renew or obtain a car title or get your license renewed. If you owe a fine and the warrant block is issued you have to first pay your fine and then pay an extra $15 warrant block fee to the Ohio Bureau Of Motor Vehicles to get the warrant block lifted. If you have a warrant for your arrest then that means turning yourself in and either going to jail until you appear in court or being issued a new summons to appear. Once your case is settled then you have to pay the $15 warrant block fee to OMV.

Too bad Ohio can't deny rabid right wing Republicans a license plate or renewal.
