Over the weekend I was watching TV and this amber alert came on as a crawler at the bottom of the screen. It was pretty much what was pasted above...

They gave her name, her age, weight, what she was wearing, that she had brown eyes and brown hair...

Everything but her race. I hope that was an omission and not some kind of P.C. thing.

Either way, prayers for her and the family and for her safe return.

I was disappointed with the alert on the news stations. I was hoping that it would be a bit more prominent and more often.

Also, Buckeye last year had took over the their system to announce bad weather. I think something like that could be of use also.

I just don't see how stories in other states become national news and this one is kinda sleepily being broadcast.

I pray for her return.

More thoughts on Nevaeh Buchanan and her imbecilic parents on my blog.

This is just making me sick! Why on earth was a 5 year old playing outside alone? ANd you know what else is f*cked up, i see LOTS of 5 and 6 year old children playing outside alone with no adult in sight and it just drives me freaking nuts!! Why is it that people will have babies and not take care of them!!!!

God bless this poor child and i pray that she'll be found safe and sound!

I let my 5 and 6 year old play outside by themselves, but I constantly check on them, plus I live in a neighborhood where someone is always outside, and we all keep an eye on each other's kids if we are out.

The same damn thing could happen even if an adult was out there with them. So I guess we should just keep them all inside constantly, so nothing bad ever happens.

I guess its your judgment call as to whether or not your kids are responsible enough/your neighborhood is safe enough to play outside in.

But do you seriously believe that the "same damn things" could happen if you were out there personally watching them vs. just letting them outside without a parent/responsible adult in charge?

FWIW, my kids are nearly 5 & 6. We live on a quiet, dead end cul de sac in a very safe Sylvania subdivsion. I let them play unsupervised in our fenced-in back yard (though I can see/hear them from inside the house). However, I don't let them play at length in the front yard unsupervised. In the front yard, I'm either outside playing with them, tending to my flower garden, etc. (except for perhaps running in the house briefly to grab something, use the restroom, etc.)

Latest email from WTOL:

News 11 has obtained a search warrant in the Amber Alert case of missing 5-year-old Nevaeh Buchanan. According to the search warrant, shorts and a towel were found with blood on them. In addition, there was blood staining on the wall above the bathroom sink in the hotel room. Read more on wtol.com. We'll have this story on News 11 at 11 tonight.

Yeah, 13-ABC ran that story also at 11, and when I heard it my heart just dropped. I don't want to convict this guy without a trial, literally or figuratively, but to me it looks like the writing's on the wall.

Horrific. And sad.

And OK I'm not a mom, so I can't really criticize. I don't know what it's like, but it does seem that 5 years old is far too young to be unsupervised. I seem to recall around that age being allowed outside without my mom, though. However, I had a very strict boundary of exactly one house in each direction that I was allowed to go -- "from the corner to that tree" -- period, no matter what. Of course, those were less scary times.

And anyway, this mother could be the very worst mother in the whole entire world, yet she STILL wouldn't deserve to go through what she's going through, if in fact she had nothing to do with it. Nobody does.

MOM2, yeah it can happen if they are outside with an adult. All it takes is one second when your not looking and they could be gone. There would be advantage though because you would be able to see who got them more than likely.

My kids mostly play in the back yard too, but if they are up front, like JM said they are only aloud one house in each direction, I can also see the front, back, and side of our house from my office windows.

Maybe i should have been more specific when i spoke of children playing outside alone, i was refering to the children i see around town riding their bikes, running down busy streets with no adults in sight. There was a child, he looked about 6 or so riding his bike on oak street, he almost ran right in the middle of the street becasue he alsmost wasn't able to stop in time from the corner and then after the car passed he continued to cross the road, on his bike and kept on going, there was no adults anywhere near him.

Also lets not forget the poor child who was killed crossing Bryne road a few years back who was unsupervised, byrne freaking road! those are the things i was refering to.

tm2,

In that case I agree with you. There is no reason a child that age should be doing that stuff without the supervision of an adult.

There is a family a block from me thats let's their three year old roam around like it's nothing. I've seen her on our street a few times.
