Jason Staham (the "Transporter")is an FBI agent whose partner is taken out by a mysterious asassin known only to the world as "Rogue". Said asassin also kills the partners' wife and daughter, and Staham swears revenge. A few years later, Statham's character is burned out, divorced, seedy....and we're beginning to get into familiar territory here. Jet Li (most recently of THE MUMMY 3) plays the master asassin, who is supposed to be working for a Japanese Yakuza family, but is constantly double-crossing them for some reason. You're led to believe he's a spy for another Yakuza family that's infiltrated, but that's only part of the situation. Many fight scenes, much confusion-half the time you can't figure who's killing who-and throw in some crooked cops for good measure. Then comes several twists at the end that may have worked in a less elaborate and violence-filled production, but fail here, simply because Rogue is such a supremely talented killer (with all methods available, including swordplay and martial arts) that you are asked to suspend too much disbelief. Sorry, I wasn't buying it. Were it just an average hit man tale-possible. To make matters worse, do they leave it open for a sequel, or don't they? Muddled and dark to begin with, the ending finishes the job and kills it off the rest of the way. A pity, really-something that had potential and is loaded with decent actors consequently falls on its face and collapses under its own pretentiousness. I've always liked Li-a great talent, but his best American film role remains his first to me-the sadistic villain in Lethal Weapon 4 (he actually saved that movie). The guy needs a new agent. Staham is just being Statham-you either like him or you don't. He's actually easier to take here than most of his pictures, but again to no avail. One plus: the woman who plays the wife of John Lone (one of the Yakuza heads)has one of the greatest sets of legs I've ever seen. Doesn't help much. Good blooper reel.

If you like Jet Li, ckout Ying xiong or Hero from 2004. IMHO easily his best movie.
I always thought his first American movie was his best-LETHAL WEAPON 4. Haven't seen all his foreign ones.
