Did Bistro Wasabi in Perrysburg close?

I heard that the Bistro Wasabi closed! Is that true? That was my favorite sushi place. I loved the Superman and the Hot and Sexy was great too.

It's true! I also loved that they named those menu items after me. (Sorry couldn't resist).
Seriously, I loved the place.

Yes.

With the cold winter and the economy is the dumps, how are the out door malls going? I go the book stores and a few of the resturants but not much in between.

I was at Levis last night. It seemed lively. I get there often because I live nearby. Honestly, other than the resturants, I don't much notice the shops.
But, as I say, there are usually a lot of people scurrying around if that's any indication.

We are a blue collar town...always have been - always will be...and there's nothing wrong with that. I never understand why overpriced restaurants and foo-foo stores try to make it here.

^^^You've got to be kidding me. They make it here all the time. Have you ever been to the mall?

You are what you want to be. If Toledoans thinks they should continue to be a rust belt blue collar town, then so be it.

Bistro Wasabi was foo foo and overpriced? You get what you pay for.

Yes the city of Toledo may be blue collar, but Perrysburg, Monclova, Sylvania, parts of Maumee and Holland are far from and their the ones who go to these places. The blue collar jobs are a dying breed (and it's sad) in Toledo. There's plenty of Doctors, Lawyers, Small Business owners who have remained successful during this tough economic time who still go out to these places. People need to realize how important an education and that they need it to be secure. Outdoor malls are great even in northern Ohio. I enjoy going to Levis and Fallen Timbers more then the thug filled Westfield mall. The reason Bisto Wasabi closed was there were four Asian resuraunts in Levis, one of them was bound to fail.

A tweet response earlier this afternoon said:

@toledotalk Yep, my office is at Levis and [Bistro Wasabi has] been closed up for a few weeks now. Just a sign on the door now.

I thought I remembered reading that the same people who ran Bistro Wasabi also run Fujiyama. So maybe you can get your fix there.

Perhaps Levis commons was just too small a venue for two upscale sushi joints?

Sorry (not really) to piss off you Ottawa Hills wannabees, but I've lived here long enough to understand and appreciate Toledo for what it is demographically. If I didn't like it, I'd move. Go look at any WalMart parking lot any day of the week...that's reality. And that is the target market for business success here.

Huh? WalMarts are crowded everywhere. Even rich people are stupid enough to shop there. I don't understand your post.

WTF Ryan...whats so hard to understand? You must have a government job.

posted by justareviewer on Jun 19, 2009 at 09:47:56 pm     #

Wal-Mart is crowded because there is no competition left near them. Lucky to have so many restaurants in such a small town.

Wow, justareviewer seems bitter. NO, I don't have a gov job (and not sure why that would matter) - but there are people in the area with money was my point. You make it sound like Toledo can only afford WalMart staples. If you think you had to be rich to eat at Wasabi you are delusional.

Justareviewer's argument is flawed. Bistro Wasabi was located not in Toledo, but on the outskirts of Perrysburg. There's a slight socioeconomic difference between the areas, and this place was located in a higher-end shopping center. I think the immediate competiton had more to do with its closing than the simple argument "it was located in NWO & nobody here can afford sushi".

Who really gives a shit?? Toledo has more bars and restaurants per capita than any other town in the entire u.s. according to a usa Today article. And yet, they keep opening new ones. Then everybody makes a big deal out of it when one goes under. Not everybody likes raw meat, either.

"Not everybody likes raw meat, either". Thank You DS.
Couldn't have said it better myself...at least not to the empty-headed.

That's a shame. Their filet was one of the best I have ever had.

Well done, everybody. Turning a restaurant inquiry into a bitter shouting match. I think we've set a high bar here. This will be hard to top.

I didn't see any bitter shouting match, just minor disagreement. Some here really need to grow a thicker skin.

It's a question about a restaurant closing. That is about as neutral as you can get and we turn it into a cultural debate. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH US. Guys, this isn't us. I think we need to seek counseling.

I heard through the grape vines that there will be a new resturant opening that will have the same food as bistro wasabi in town in the a couple of weeks. I heard that the restaurant is gonna be called Domo restaurant or something like that. hmmm...I have no idea what that means though. Anyway, I can't wait until they open. I've been craving for their sushi for a long time.
