Downtown 4th of July Fireworks are no longer free!?!?

I was just informed that the will be an admission to watch the fireworks downtown this year. I heard it's only $2 but over at the Docs it's $10.

Is that if you're walking or parking?

Doesn't sound unreasonable if it's a "parking event fee" and use the money to fund crowd control.

Going to a Mudhens game I often see places charge $5-$10+ for parking several blocks away.

There is a $2 charge for anyone 12 and older to enter Promenade Park after 4 PM, HOWEVER, if you bring canned goods to donate, the $2 will be "waived", for lack of a better term.

The 13 ABC story about it can be found here:

The Docks does charge 10 dollars to park, but you can get your money back in the form of food or drink. You can use your parking ticket as a 10 dollar coupon if you spend it at any of the restaurants at the docks. They have been doing this for years now. This is where we go every year and we have the best view of the fireworks.I use my parking ticket towards a couple of beers at the Navy Bistro. The restaurants do this so that all their parking is not taken up by people that are just going to the fireworks. They would lose too much money if they let people park for free.

We either watch it from our home, or we go to the Marco's on Main St park, and walk alittle bit to watch them
